This is a Must-visit attraction in Coober Pedy. Everything you need to know about Opals is here in this beautiful museum cum opal jewellery store. The entrance to the venue is free. There are guided tours with informative movies which operate 2-3 times daily and need booking. There's a huge amount of rich history of opal mining, works of traditional arts, paintings, depictions of cultural heritages and so on... exhibited everywhere you look, from showcases to all the walls of this underground museum. There's a jewellery shop located within, which sells varieties of opal jewelleries, paintings & souvenirs, etc. Incidentally, there's also a coffee machine located inside the jewellery store area, where you can grab a quick coffee/tea while looking around. But there ain't any toilets/wash rooms inside this venue. So when you arrive here, make sure you are not in a Rush! Thankfully, there are a few emergency exits though 🤣

This place is great! We were doing a tour from Adelaide to Alice Springs and of course this was one of the stops we were really looking forward to. We also wanted to get something opal as a memory of our trip and there were so many nice options to choose from in the attached shop for both guys and girls. There are many places you can buy opal around the area, but the mine seemed a little more special and credible, and I couldn't be happier. Months after our trip I had an opal fall out of the ring and when I called to enquire they simply asked for my proof of purchase and they were happy to have their jeweller fix the issue and mail it back to me, all free of charge - that's quality! Kate was a gem to deal with and I would happily recommend others to visit this place and if you're thinking about buying something opal, you can shop with confidence here!

I liked the museum And the lovely staff but I brought a $220 uv light that lasted 10 minutes cooked it self so i did my research and found it a very common problem ... I was not happy with the light I wanted to replace it with the thier cheaper one for a $150 the lovely staff memberšŸ™‚ went and spoke to the boss and he would only give a replacement... so I ask to speak with him!!! he come out with take him to consumers affairs he has done every thing right!! I was like what totally blown away with his response...... I took the uv light away got home and tested it and what do you know it cooked it self again I ten minutes..... now I was super angry I went back seen the lovely staff member again keeping my cool and kindly asked for a refund I had to wait for the boss to come back when he got back I got a refund but he had nothing to say... so brought the $150 uv light much happier has paid for it self in the first night than you.... but I am still out of pocket $220 as the refund has taken more then 1 week hit my bank... still dont have the refund yet..

thank you to the lovely staff member your amazing you know...

We had the miss fortune of going to the Umoona restaurant last night. I don't know how it is connected to the mine but it was our first disappointing experience in Coober Pedy since we have been semi regular visitors over the past 20 years. After being seated at a table we had no offer of either a drink or menu's. Another couple came in after us, seated by same girl, asked whether they woild like a drink to start and given both water snd menus. We then waited and waited and finally had to get her attention and request both menus and water. These eventually came but no offer of drinks. We then waited again until I finally again caught her attention and requested a wine menu. At this stage I was well and truely ready to walk out. When we finally got to order our wine our first choice was unavailable. We were both tired and hungry so we stuck it out and eventually got our meals which were surprisingly good considering the start to our dining experience . Certainly...
