Hidden Gems of Australia: How Many Have You Visited?

After a long drive from Port Augusta to Coober Pedy I developed quite the appetite. I went to Outback Bar and Grill for dinner and ordered the porterhouse schnitzel with mushroom sauce for $27.90. When the waiter brought my schnitzel out for dinner I was very disappointed with what I received. Before I began eating, I took it back to the counter and complained I wasn't happy with the size. The waiter stared at me blank faced and repeated a few times that 'He's not the manager and he can't do anything about it'. Was a real cop out of an excuse. After no apologies or compensation like an extra serving of fries, I began to eat my meal, to which not only was disappointing size-wise, but also in terms of quality. The schnitzel was chewy and had a dirty oil flavor to it. The only good thing about it was the salad and I guess 'presentation'..? Whilst eating it I saw the waiter talking to another waitress about how I complained about the size to which I heard her respond to her colleague that 'they are small schnitzels.' There are other options to dine out in Coober Pedy and I recommend Googling other places to eat before deciding on Outback bar and grill. Photo attached - Does this $27.90 porterhouse schnitzel look good value for money to you?

After a 10 hour trip our family of 7 decided to come here for dinner. We lined up and ordered in groups. One group had ordered garlic bread, garlic prawns, barramundi, salmon and pasta. Another group was 2 pastas and one schnitzel. The meals ordered last came out first before the entrées, the entrées came out at different times as well. Over half an hour later the two had finished their meals and the rest of the group hadn’t even received their food. After kindly asking them about the rest of the meals they went to check and didn’t come back. Five minutes later I went up to the counter to ask about our orders, I was told because we ordered separately they wouldn’t come out at the same time. He said then it’s busy. I understand orders not coming out at the same time but 35 minutes and two people had already finished their meals but 5 people haven’t received their food yet. Bit ridiculous. Customer service was shocking, not even a ‘sorry for the wait’ but blaming us for ordering separately??? Also a table that ordered after us and had more people received their food before us.

The following review is a reply to another review. Please read below.

Sorry to see not 1, but two 1 star reviews from your entourage, we have looked into this with the kitchen staff as we strive to provide prompt service, but some dishes, such as the rib eye fillet, do require additional preparation time to ensure they are cooked to perfection.

The Rib Eye was not cooked to perfection. It was requested as medium rare but was received as medium well.

It was noted that your order included an AB combo, Arancini balls, combo yiros, 2 hot dogs, and a beef rib eye fillet, which was asked to be served all together to provide a shared lunch experience and took no more than 30mins.

This is false because 3 meals were finished prior to the other 2 meals being received. Our order took a total of 40 minutes, which is ridiculous considering any competent restaurant would accommodate for the "increased phone orders" and called more staff to work, as said in the below body.

Although the dining area wasn't busy, it was noted that there were takeaway phone orders being prepared prior to starting your order. Perhaps when you ordered, you assumed your steak would be placed immediately on the grill, which wasn't the case due to the orders prior to yours.

Sorry if this experience caused you to become hangry.

If you are keen to get back on the Highway, for a quicker experience, rather then ordereing the beef rib eye fillet for lunch (unless you have time) we recommend choosing items that have shorter preparation times (similar to the rest of the order). We appreciate your understanding.

This isn't an acceptable reply. If you can't serve your meal in a prompt manner, maybe you shouldn't offer it on your menu.

Safe travels.

We would have had safer travels if we weren't held up by your incompetent staff.

Furthermore, if this was my business, I would be questioning all of your staff members standing around doing absolutely nothing to assist other staff members. In my opinion, that is not how a good team works and certainly not how my business is run.

Anything to make...

Over the past 2 years had the pleasure of dining at the Outback Bar & Grill Coober Pedy and I must say, it always exceeds all my expectations. From the moment I walk in, I’m greeted warmly by the Pantelis Family, who truly embody the spirit of hospitality. The food at Outback Bar & Grill is unparalleled. Each dish is a culinary delight, bursting with flavours and made with the finest ingredients. I highly recommend trying their Greek Souvlaki. The service here is impeccable. The staff are attentive, friendly, and go above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience. The Pantelis Family's dedication to customer satisfaction is truly commendable. The Pantelis Family sets the bar high when it comes to hospitality. They make you feel like a welcome guest and their eagerness to please is evident in every interaction. Nothing is ever too much trouble for them. The restaurant exudes a cozy and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing meal with friends or family. The decor adds to the overall charm of the place, creating a welcoming environment for diners. Overall, my experiences at Outback Bar & Grill Coober Pedy have been nothing short of exceptional every time. The combination of excellent food, top-notch service, and the genuine warmth of the Pantelis Family make this restaurant a must-visit in Coober Pedy. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a memorable dining...

Hi, Im the third of 5 patrons that had lunch on the 27th. We saw your replies to the 2 other reviews. And would like to follow up with

No one asked for the meals to be bought out at the same time (your kitchen staff are liars)

Even if that was the case, not a single meal was bought out with any other meal.

3 meals were served and finished prior to my receiving of the ribeye

We didn't order 2 hotdogs within this, me and another patron bought a made to buy (premade) dagwood dog each.

A staff member has come to us a long time after one of the patrons received their yiros, asking "are you guys waiting on anything". To which then we had to bring ourselves to provide the receipts for the ribye, arancini balls and ab pack. They claimed to not have a steak on order.

I was physically watching a staff member cleaning to what I would assume the same glass for a good 10 minutes (they couldve helped with LITTERALLY anything)

You should've seen it with your own eyes, I was watching a pack of them chatting and doing nothing (including glass cleaning lady). That is a failure of teamwork and no good to see happen when I'd been waiting for over 40 minutes for my so called 'perfect' ribeye

And finally, the steak was far from perfection, I ordered medium rare and it was lucky to be at minimum medium well

The reply you left for us were full of more lies than politicians leave us...
