Firstly.. I have stayed at many questionable accommodation providers around the country with minimal issue.

Second time I have visited Coober for work. I chose the Mudhut because last time I stayed underground and it was too stuffy and uncomfortable.. I mentioned this to the gentleman when I checked in.. he didnt comment.

I went to the room to find the AC was on but the room was marginally cooler than the 43c weather outside...

The AC was also quite loud...

I mentioned this to the gentleman who checked me In and he advised he had put in a requisition for split systems in each room.. he came in and checked it.. opened the windows some more.

I noticed that it is one evaporative AC between 3 rooms..

I went out for a few hours and came back to find a smoke alarm going off in another unit and my room full of smoke and chemical fumes and the AC not working.

I called the gentleman again and after some time he found me a new room....

He made it seem like he did me (and another guest) a favour by finding us other rooms.

No apology was given...and unfortunately the second room AC is just as loud but works even poorer that the first room.

Terrible conditions.. and I know I won't be getting any sleep.. the room is at least 27c....

Air Conditioned rooms should not be advertised when the AC is barely operational......

The only saviour.. that barely helped was a wall mounted fan..

Next I laid down, head on pillow to notice whilst the pillow cases appeared to be clean they had that dirty, oily hair smell..

Upon further inspection 2 of the pillows were stained.. I didnt check the other 2 on the beds needing something to sleep on...

The 2 spare pillows in the cupboard.. covered in animal fur.

long black hair in the base of the shower.

Bathroom towels frayed.

1:18Am.. outside temp 33.7... no noticeable difference between inside...

In their internet site they say: "FREE AIRPORT TRANSFERS FOR GUESTS".||So I emailed them and asked for a transfer from the airport. Their answer: "this will depend on the cleaning of rooms"…||What? I emailed them again, and this time their answer was: "This can be arranged for you".|What do you mean "can be arranged "? arrange it!||I emailed them for the third time, and this time they said: "We will endeavor to do our best as long as the flight is not delayed".||Well, the flight was not delayed. It arrived in Coober Pedy exactly on time, and surprise surprise, no one was at the airport to take us!|We stood there hopelessly, until a local who works at the airport pitied us and brought us to the motel.||Do you think that someone at the motel mentioned the incident? Apologized? Ha!||The room was not clean enough. When we turned on the AC, pieces of some sort of trash came flying down from the upper vents. We had to turn it off.||The next morning, we put the sign PLEASE TIDY UP MY ROOM on the doorknob. When we came back, we saw that nothing was done. We asked why and got the answer: "Guests can only use the other side of the sign – DO...

Pre booked day before for room at the Mud Brick Motel Coober Pedy through Expedia. The money was taken out of my account immediately. Arrived there at 4pm from Alice Springs following day. Met with owner and he said he had received the booking from Expedia but no money. He requested an additional $175 if I wanted a room. I showed him the emails and my bank statement showing I had paid for the room and he just kept repeating that he had received no money from Expedia and if I wanted to stay there I had to pay again. I asked him if he used Expedia before, he said they had used Expedia many times before with no issues. I suggested to him that if there were no issues in the past surely this was an anomaly and he could follow up with them. He flatly refused and kept repeating about how much I would have to pay if I wanted a room. He was extremely rude and unhelpful. I left and found another room elsewhere. I contacted Expedia who were extremely apologetic and refunded...

We stayed here for 3 nights. This motel is located close to most major attractions in Coober Pedy. There are service stations, restaurants, pizza shops and one supermarket close by. The room was spacious, clean, and tidy with clean, comfortable beds. There was good hot water and room heating with parking space provided right in front. Late/ after-hours self check in was hassle free for us with room keys kept inside a safe (information for obtaining the keys provided via text). The only negatives during our stay were: 1) Water was leaking from the side of the bathroom washbasin, emanating from the hot water tap and dripping on the floor (while using the water only). We tried to contain it by placing towels around the sink. The bathroom also looked a bit dated and could do with some upgrades. 2) The room fan blades had a layer of visible dust. I'm glad we didn't have to use it being in winter. Overall, this motel is pretty good for a comfortable/relaxed stay in Coober Pedy.

🏨 Comfortable Stay in the Heart of Coober Pedy A great place to base yourself while exploring Coober Pedy! The rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with handy amenities like a microwave, fridge, and kettle—everything you need for a convenient stay. The ever-present dust is part of the outback charm, though, so just embrace it with a smile. 😂 All in all, a solid and cozy spot to recharge after a day of adventure. Oh and be on the lookout for the friendly resident Cat .
