"Sculptures By The Sea".. If, like myself, you havn't ventured to Cottesloe beach all summer (favouring the quieter sands of North Coogee or South Beach Dog beach),then may l suggest you embark on a little mission & venture over there BEFORE the sculptures leave the shore.. be wise like we were & go after dark! (Very dark in fact!)then it's a pleasure to stroll along the beachfront, and marvel at the distorted shadows and stark outlines created by a myriad of curious looking sculptures..Some appear to move and sway, almost coming to life as they cleverly capture the light from streetlamps close by. Others like silent sentinels populate the quiet sands and in the moonlight appear to gaze intently towards the horizon. We sat for quite a while, the dog and l, taking in this slightly weird and whacky night-time beach invasion, before continuing a little gingerly along the unlit pathways that criss cross the dense scrub by the ocean front...( bring a little torch with you).. You may even discover some of the exhibitions smallest and most life like sculptures, as l did when my dog stuck his nose into the darkness and backed away growling at the smallest of "bandicoots" almost hidden from sight! Some "cats" were visible further along, which sent my big "toughie" Mastiff into a panic!! Hilarious! Wish ld caught that encounter on camera!! We spent a lovely, almost magical few hrs enjoying the rare serenity that only night can bring to thus stunning stretch of...

Shame for what was an international Perth beach destination pre-lockdowns. Perhaps Cottesloe Town Shire thinks local visitors are not worth lawn upkeep? Stopped by Cottesloe otw back from Fremantle. 850m walk from train station to beach. Peaceful and beautiful scenery. Walked back towards Grant Street beach and train station and was rewarded with the most stunning sunset all along the whole stretch of the beach. The sand is clean and nice, there's a decently clean toilet/shower close buy and some decent food places across the road. Good luck finding parking in peak hour, you're going to need it.Fantastic place to go for a walk. Beach is clean. Footpaths in good condition and level. Easy for wheelchairs. After a nice walk you can go grab a meal or a coffee at so many nice places. C Blu at OBH is one of my favourites all year around. Indiana Tea house during warmer months is stunning. Not open the last time we were here. Maybe Winter hours or Covid 19 has affected...
Read moreCottesloe is our favourite beach within the Perth metro area. You can get to it easily via car and train. One of the few beaches in Perth with shady trees and grassy slopes. It's a fantastic place to watch the sun setting over the Indian Ocean while enjoying a picnic and a glass of wine. Many eateries and cafes line the road so you'll lots to choose from. Lots of parking available but it can still be a challenge during weekends and public holidays. The dark, medieval looking public toilets and changing rooms desperately need an upgrade. These are located in a huge building that also houses the historic Indiana Tearooms. The world famous Sculptures By The Sea, a free public art event, is held along this beautiful beach and sculptors from all over the world exhibit their larger than life pieces here for 2 weeks every March. It can get quite windy along the beach and the waves are rough sometimes. There is a groyne at one end that juts out into the ocean. And it's from here that many photographers like to capture Perth's iconic...
