Fantastic fit out and detail in the venue. And although a tad expensive, the meals were great. Açai bowl, shark bay prawns, Ora Salmon, all quality ingredients executed well. Worth the money in my opinion. Your kitchen team obviously care.
The negative is the front of house experience. Looking back at previous reviews there doesn't seem to be much action from the owners with regard to this unfortunately but I'll outline the experience anyway in the hope it makes a difference because the venue is great.
Thursday 27th July, 3pm. It was quiet. There were four servers and maybe 5 tables with people sitting drinking coffee or having lunch. After waiting to be seated at the door for a few minutes and no one paying any heed to us we decided to seat ourselves. On the way to sit down we were told in passing by a 'waitress' to order at the counter when we were ready. While the people working had conversations with each other we got our own water, went to the counter to order and waited for our meals. The meals were 'dropped' on our table within 10 minutes which was great, but no 'enjoy your meal' or 'can I get you anything else', nothing.
We did enjoy our meals and sat for a while after to digest but as expected, no one attempted to clear our table or ask us how it was. Throughout the time we were eating our meal, a window blind was blowing in the wind and banging against the wall, constantly. We watched the staff congregate by the counter talking while no one even thought to fix it or pull up the blind. They were oblivious to it. They weren't focused on the venue or its guests, at all.
We were planning to stay for coffee and dessert but between the banging blind and the unbothered staff, we decided to grab some coffees to go. We walked past 2 staff on our departure and not so much as a good bye or thank you. We had to make a point of saying it to them as we went out the door.
Someone mentioned in a previous review that it felt like felt unwanted or non existent, which in our case also felt true. So sad really that the venue can hit the mark on so much and be let down by its workplace culture.
The service model of order at the counter can work but at Magic apple it seems to be taking away all opportunity for people to be acknowledged or made feel welcome. If you intend to use this model then at least train your team to offer water or welcome people because currently they are making absolutely no effort to engage with your customers. It's almost completely self service aside from the delivery of the meal and with the prices you are charging, people surely expect some...
Read moreLet me preface this by saying the scrambled eggs at Magic Apple Cottelose were surprisingly good. Fluffy, perfectly seasoned, and clearly made with fresh ingredients. I'm a bit of a scrambled egg connoisseur, and these were definitely up there with the best. If you're looking for a simple, well-executed breakfast, the kitchen staff clearly knows what they're doing.
Unfortunately, that's where the positive experience ended. The service was, frankly, abysmal. From the moment I walked in, I felt like an unwelcome guest. The staff seemed completely disinterested, and their demeanor was bordering on rude. I ordered the scrambled eggs and a coffee, and even that simple order seemed to be an inconvenience.
I noticed a general lack of attentiveness. For example, [insert a specific, but not overly dramatic, example, e.g., "my coffee was lukewarm when it arrived, and no one checked to see if I needed anything else"]. It was a very basic level of service that was completely lacking.
The atmosphere was also a bit off. While the restaurant itself has potential, the staff's attitude created a tense and uncomfortable environment. It felt like they were doing me a favor by serving me, rather than the other way around.
It's a real shame, because the eggs were genuinely excellent. But I can't recommend a restaurant based on one dish alone, especially when the service is so poor. I understand that everyone has off days, but the staff's behavior was consistently dismissive and unfriendly. If you're willing to risk a bad service experience for some good scrambled eggs, then go for it. But personally, I won't be returning. I'd rather find somewhere where I can enjoy a decent breakfast without feeling like I'm...
Read moreWe were very excited to try and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. After being seated we waited at least 20 minutes before we could even catch the eye of waitstaff to make an order. When we found one she said I’ll get someone else for you and we waited another 5 minutes. At this point I was ready to leave but my counterpart insisted we persevere.
The menu is overwhelmed with words and ingredients with little explanation of what the dish actually is with buzz words like “magic dust” and “magic rice” none of which were appealing in the end. As I have a nut allergy with so many unexplained ingredients I didn’t risk more than the flat bread with eggs as side dishes and my friend ordered the smashed avocado. This is however clearly stated on the menu that they cannot cater for allergies due to excessive cross contamination which was appreciated. The mince was underseasoned and bland and the smashed avocado dish was mostly just sauerkraut. The protein power smoothie didn’t come out until 10 minutes after the meal was already finished and it lacked flavour and had a super gritty texture. For 1.5 meals and 1 drink the total was $60 which was a lot for how underwhelmed we were.
The passionfruit smoothie I had takeaway previously was good however.
The fit out is gorgeous and it has real potential given the location and views but it just missed the mark unfortunately. We expressed some of these concerns to the waitstaff however she seemed to just nod and smile and move on.
Hopefully with constructive feedback and some teething fixes the potential will come...
