Kiama Lighthouse & Around – A Chill Coastal Escape
If you’re looking for a laid-back day trip from Sydney, Kiama is such a vibe. Just about 2 hours south, this cute little coastal town has everything you need for a slow, scenic getaway — starting with the iconic Kiama Lighthouse.
The lighthouse sits on Blowhole Point, and yep, it’s as cool as it sounds. You get sweeping ocean views, dramatic cliffs, and that fresh sea breeze that makes you want to just stop and breathe it all in. Right nearby is the famous Kiama Blowhole, where water shoots up from the rocks when the tide’s right — it’s pretty epic when it goes off.
If you’re up for a bit of a walk, the Kiama Coastal Walk is honestly one of the prettiest trails around. Think rolling green hills on one side and the ocean stretching out on the other. Keep your eyes peeled — if you’re lucky, you might spot some whales cruising past (best chance is from May to November).
After all the exploring, head into the town for some good food and chill vibes. There are heaps of cute cafes, local shops, and spots to grab fresh seafood.
Whether you’re into nature, photography, or just want to escape the city and breathe salty air, Kiama’s got you. Easy to get to, super chill, and absolutely...
Read moreVisiting Kiama Lighthouse was an absolutely breathtaking experience! Perched atop a hill with panoramic views of the ocean, the location itself is stunning and offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle. The view of the Pacific Ocean is truly mesmerizing, especially during sunrise or sunset, when the colors of the sky reflect beautifully on the water.
What made the visit even more special was the nearby Kiama Blowhole. It’s an awe-inspiring natural phenomenon that leaves you in wonder every time it sprays water high into the air. The sound and force of the water crashing through the blowhole are both thrilling and humbling. Be sure to check the tide schedules, as the blowhole is at its most active during high tide.
The lighthouse itself is well-maintained and provides a glimpse into Australia’s maritime history. The area around the lighthouse is perfect for a leisurely stroll, with well-kept paths and plenty of spots to sit and take in the view. Parking is convenient, and there are nearby cafes and picnic areas to enjoy.
Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, photographer, or simply looking for a peaceful spot to relax, Kiama Lighthouse and Blowhole are a must-visit. I can’t wait to return and experience it...
Read moreWe didn't originally intend to stop here. It was on our travel planner as a "if you have time, try and see this sight". However, I am so glad we went 8 minutes out of way from the highway, and would highly recommend stopping here. The views were incredible and, unlike many lookouts, there were several points and heaps of space from which to enjoy the view. Even though it was super busy when we went there, at no point did it feel crowded. The blowhole itself was also fantastically entertaining, and honestly really consistent! If you're really wanting to get that picture-perfect photo or slowmo video, you really only have to wait every 7-10 swells for a big one to come along. While we didn't partake in these, there were heaps of walking tracks and picnic spots if you have time for a longer stop. And the main street we drove down to get to the lookout was bustling with parks and cafes and shops. There was also a cafe at the top of the hill right near the lighthouse, and the public toilets there were some of the most clean and well-kept I've ever seen. Perfect if you need a moment on a long journey. Highly recommended, and would absolutely tell friends and go...
