Surf Beach — Attraction in Illawarra

Dangerous beach for swimming when waves are rough. Sandbars & rips can be unpredictable at Surf Beach Kiama. Jan 2013 & Oct 2023 saw multiple person rescues here. Don't swim here when rough, by yourself, if lifesavers not in attendance or outside of the flags. If you get into difficulty, NEVER swim against a rip, you'll tire quickly & probably drown. Go with the rip (as scary as it seems at first), float on your back using your hands to assist floatation, conserve your energy, concentrate on your breathing & staying afloat. One of the best , remote, peaceful and lovely beach near Sydney. Not far from Kiama Blow Hole, this beach offers surfing, eating and accommodation , all encompassed in one place. Going as a group will be more enjoyable.
