I often wonder whether the DNA Tower in Kings Park is as well known by locals, as it is by tourists??( I suspect not). The tower has been an icon in the centre of Kings Park for about 5 decades. One theory of its historical origin is that it was originally some sort of CSIRO/ Kings Park project, showing the physical manifestation of a DNA 'string' moelcule, but cast as a walking Tower.
If you believe the signage, however, it was simply based upon a stone staircase seen in a French Chateau. But if you look at pictorial descriptions of DNA molecules, the similarity is too close to be coincidental?
Being over 20 m high, it is a 'nice' vertical walk ( see the attached photos), raising a bit of a 'sweat' for us less fit folk... But the view from the top is well worth the climb.
Beautiful views are to be had across our fine city.. You will be able to identify the various landmarks from a metallic map that is located on the top level.
There's also a beautiful walk along the lawn from The King's Park Adventure Playground, leading to the DNA tower. You can then continue your walk towards the Pioneer woman's...
Read moreThe DNA Tower in Kings Park is a landmark that is well worth visiting. It is a unique structure with a design that is simple but striking, and it remains one of the most recognisable features of the park. Despite being built many years ago, it has aged well and continues to stand proudly as both a piece of history and a fun attraction.
Climbing the tower is an enjoyable experience in itself. The spiral staircase is easy enough to manage, yet it still gives you a sense of accomplishment when you reach the top. It feels like a little workout, but the reward is more than worth it. From the top platform, you are treated to wonderful views across Kings Park, the Swan River, and out over the city. On a clear day you can see for miles, and it is the kind of view that makes you stop for a moment just to take it all in.
What makes the DNA Tower so appealing is that it offers something simple yet memorable. It is fun, a little bit different, and suitable for all ages. For visitors exploring Kings Park, the DNA Tower is a must see and absolutely...
Read moreThe DNA Tower in Kings Park is an okay spot to check out if you’re already nearby, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit it. The spiral staircase design is interesting and gives it a unique look, but the climb itself is pretty underwhelming.
The views from the top are decent but nothing spectacular compared to other lookout points in Kings Park. It's also quite small, so it can feel a bit cramped if there are other visitors.
Overall, it’s a quick stop that might be worth a look if you enjoy quirky landmarks or need a short walk, but don’t expect to...
