One of the best parks in the area and I’d part of an extensive series of walking / cycling / running tracks around Altona. It’s 3.2kms to walk around the lake which was once a car racing track back in the day. Fishing is allowed with a fishing licence. Watch out for the swans and ducks who might punch your bait. Watch out for snakes throughout the year. Toilets located in two places in the park. Picnic area covered and uncovered, with bbqs, water fountains, tables and benches. Playground, beginner skate park, gym equipment and much more. Plenty of parking. Disability access. Easy walk to either Altona or Seaholme railway stations. Bus right at the entrances. Ideal for picnics and gatherings. A market held once a month on a Sunday runs here as well. Cherry Lake Park has it all with plenty of grassy areas for games....

This lake was man made as a flood retarding basin in the early to mid 60's, a flood took place in January 1963 which affected the community of altona, as a result construction of the present day lake took place.

It was formerly a swamp, which had then become a speedway in the 50's, many races were held here...

The lake is named after William Cherry, an early pioneer who had arrived on the 30th of November 1841 with his relatives and lived in the area of altona...

It is a beautiful, picturesque place, with a playground for the kids, BBQ's installed at certain areas around the lake, which i found to be clean, and two public toliets...

I jog around its perimeter quite often, it is a very freeing,...

A retarding basin as part of the local stormwater system created in partnership with Melbourne water in the local council. By turning this into a wetlands, they have created a wonderful ecosystem for birds wildlife and flora, also creating a great place for the community to come exercise. Spend time with each other and enjoying nature.

The path around the outside of the lake is grateful, walking, jogging or running, and is wide enough to be shared by those on wheels too. Well worth a visit if you’re looking for a place to...

Great place to walk on a nice day. When it is very windy this is probably the last place you want to go because the water is very choppy and it's so cold here, there is no view on a bad weather day here. They have a massive public car parking for everybody and there is a great BBQ facilities and public toilet as well. There is a children's playground. Great place for the family to go to. Just make sure if you plan to have a picnic on the grass area there's quite a lot of Duck pop everywhere.
