To the owner of Hong Kong Supermarket, First of all, I would like to express my sincere apologies. I understand how difficult it is these days to hire staff in the service industry. Let alone finding good employees. It’s a real challenge. It is with reluctance and frustration that I write this negative feedback. I believe almost every Chinese person in Melbourne knows about Hong Kong Supermarket. Your wide range of products and affordable pricing make it a popular choice. I was introduced to your store by friends, some of whom personally know the owner. Because of their enthusiastic recommendations. We never hesitated to drive 30 minutes to shop at your store. We also know quite a few shop owners along Clayton Road, so visiting your area became a pleasant routine for us. Over the years, our shopping experience has generally been enjoyable. Just a few months ago, I even had a light-hearted moment with one of your young female cashiers. I had forgotten to bring my membership card, and she kindly suggested I take a photo of it for next time. Looking back now, I truly regret not taking the time to praise her properly. Polite and thoughtful young people like her are rare these days. However, during my last two or three visits, I sensed a noticeable change. Especially during our most recent trip on Saturday, which left a particularly bad impression. My husband and I were shopping as usual and queued up to pay. When we bring a pram, we always use the checkout lanes near the ice cream freezer because they have more space. That day, our checkout was handled by a female staff member, employee number 00059. From start to finish, she did not say a word which I wouldn't normally mind. As it’s quite common in Asian grocery stores. But what bothered me was her attitude. She was aggressively slamming our items on the counter. Many of the products were delicate noodles. Aside from canned goods which she didn’t dare slam. Everything else was handled roughly. At first, I didn’t say anything, but I noticed a clear difference in her attitude toward the next customer. She was calm and polite. That’s when I turned around to speak with the manager. Meanwhile, she stood there with a smug, as if nothing had happened. If it were the customer who was rude first, then it would be understandable for the staff to respond accordingly. But if a staff member chooses to act out of malice, jealousy, or just enjoys stirring up trouble, then they only have themselves to blame for the consequences. To 00059, you're still young and should have a promising future. But your actions are already paving the way for failure. Don’t assume the company can’t do anything about your behaviour, and don’t keep pretending to be innocent. Your first punishment has already been marked on your face! If you wish to continue acting out next time, we won’t hold back either. Go ahead and try, and you’ll find out exactly what it means to mess with the wrong people.

Been here a few times now. Highlights are the range of Asian noodle meals, Snacks and Sweets, frozen dumpling range and the range of Asian Beers, Wines and Spirits. If you are an Aussie like me, most of the packaging is unreadable and Google Translate is essential so you have a vague idea of what you are buying and don't buy something like "River Snail Soup" or "Duck Blood Vermicelli"...........unless that's your thing! Internet/mobile service within the store is extremely weak and patchy, especially towards the back of the store where Google Translate just stops working. Laid out like a modern Coles/Woolies supermarket, wide aisles, very brightly lit and spotlessly clean, unlike many other Asian supermarket style stores which tend to be small, cramped, dingy, dark and dusty. Staff are helpful and seem to know EXACTLY where even the most obscure unfindable products are stashed away in this very densely packed store. A large butcher/fresh meat section is right at the front of the store. An incredible range of imported products, almost none I'd seen before. Well displayed with clear pricing labels, I was only there for half an hour and barely got through 2 of the aisles of snack food and ramen meals. Really incredible range from Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia, etc etc etc. I needed to use Google translate on my phone to figure out what many of the products that I was interested in were, as there is either none, or very little English on any of the packaging. I wasn't planning on buying anything and ended up spending near $50 on noodle meals and snacks alone! Be aware that these are directly imported Asian products and when the ratings for "Spiciness" or Heat, are THEIR ratings. "Mild" is frequently inedibly hot, and "Spicy", etc is typically inedible to my palate. And I REALLY enjoy spicy food! Will definitely be back again as I've barely scratched the surface of their range and I am a bit of a Ramen junkie!

This is an Asian grocery store that has been in the area more than 10 years. It sells a lot of variety of products from different countries such as: Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, China, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam etc. Also has a fresh produce section as well as frozen products. Frozen durian is also available in the frozen section. 😍😍 Sells a lot of ready to eat snack too both local and imported. A good selections of traditional medicine also available at the counter too. If you want to have a hotpot at home this is the good place to buy all you need for the hotpot/steamboat. The slice meat, dumplings and sauce just name it.😊😊 It can be very busy on the weekend and hard to find parking space. It will be more relax during weekdays especially in the morning. During mooncake festival season, a lot of mooncake from different brand sold here, they even have the famous made in HongKong mooncake 'WingHwa' and 'Maxim'. Price is reasonable compare to other Asian Grocery stores. Some items is cheaper 👍👍. Located in a very convenient location. There are Coles, butcher, seafood store, fruit & vegetables and chemist in the shopping complex that make groceries shopping all in one area. There are a lot of nice restaurant nearby too.

Clayton Hong Kong Supermarket is usually out regular go-to shop. The products sold here are of good quality so we enjoyed them. However, my partner and friends have all been dissatisfied by the service here. We're so disappointed that we have now chosen to shop elsewhere and I feel this deserves an explanation and a low rating. Many times the customer service has been poor this has spanned over the last 4 years that we've shopped there. The cashiers, storemen and manager (especially managent) will speak to you in a very cold and rude manner, which is very unacceptable in this line of business. They regularly accuse innocent customers of shop lifting even their regulars. I have experienced this myself and have witnessed other's being accused of the same. Now it is ok to gently and politely request to check customers bags however the way in which they "ask" is entirely unprofessional. They already assume you have stolen and then speak to you in a very aggressive, judgement way. They even refuse to let you purchase until you show them bank transfers of other products you purchased at another store, insisting in a very rude, pressuring way & if you don't have a receipt from the other store they look down on you as if you're a criminal. When really everything is recorded by their CCTV so they should not insist the customer to go out of their way to prove it and to waste the customers time and shipping experience when they could easily check their cctv this is what I do at my own successful business if I have suspicions. This had happened to me, my partner, my friends, I've witnessed strangers being treated the same & I'm sure many other customers. They seriously need to work on their customer service skills it is essential and to train their staff to do the same. The customer must always be treated with kindness, patience and respect. It costs nothing to be kind, to approach these situations with calmness and politeness and to keep things professional at all costs. I have not once been met with a friendly smile, a thankyou, a can I help you, or any kind of effort to build customer repaw and customer satisfaction, which is customer service, the bare minimum. This is very inappropriate and disappointing to be accused of something like shop lifting in front of an entire audience of customers after I allowed them to check my bag and do each time we shop there. I'm a law abiding citizen who doesn't have any need to steal. Like I said the way in which they ask to check proof of purchase of other food items brought into their store, seriously needs to change. They should be very ashamed of their unprofessional, aggressive and extremely judgmental behaviour. Just please be aware that if you want a peaceful shopping experience here the service will ruin it. It took alot of awful service experiences in this store for me to finally address it. Management you did do something wrong today and this was your fault for not remaining polite and professional. Learn and grow up so you can do better Kong Kong...
