Ahh I remember this bridge. Back in 2008-2009 I was working for a company. We were in a truck, I was the passenger at the time. We were going somewhere, I had my head down looking at the Melways. I did not know the driver had turned onto Montague street at the time. I asked "What street are we on ?" whilst still looking down.. The driver replied "Montague street"... Just as I look at this street with the Melways, I see a bridge that is shown as '3.0m'. I proceeded to say "By the way, you will want to turn around as there is a 3.0 m bri...." BANNNNNNNG! The bridge was hit with the light truck that was about 3.5ish m high. The remains of the truck went airborne like we were on some sort of epic rollercoaster ride or in the movie set of an action film and landed back on all 4's with the cabin in absolute ruins. We were physically unharmed and the front of the truck itself was mechanically totally fine. Emergency services performed their duty of care and were more concerned for us than the vehicle... and rightly so.. Trucks can be replaced, human life cannot.
What a time to be alive that was! Ahhhhh the memories. In all seriousness, I do hope they do something about it. We are in 2024 after all and it still gets hit!
If your vehicle is over 3.0m high.. hah.. Don't try go under it or have the delusion that you will fit under it, the...

Read moreI have read all existing 54 reviews and I must say their standard leaves a lot to be desired. I thought 1 or 2 of you might say that something should be done about this problem!
The obvious solution is to make the road lower but the government probably doesn’t want to spend the money. It’s not their problem.
There is a similar very low bridge (2.7 m) at Lilydale.
Warning signs and devices need to be far enough back from the bridge to allow over-height vehicles to avoid it.
I’m not sure how many stars to give, and the bridge is obviously open 24 hours a day!
No, I am not one of its victims.
Edit: I hope the bus driver from Ballarat (one of its more recent victims) is doing well now. His 5 year sentence was far too severe. I suppose they didn't give him his job back.
Edit 2 (February, 2024): The low bridge at Lilydale has now...
