Westside Ale Works is a laidback brewery in South Melbourne that started in 2016 with a focus on brewing big, hoppy beers. They moved to a new location in 2019 just a few doors down from their original spot, where they have more room for people to enjoy their beers, a private function space and a bottleshop. 🍻 They offer 30 beers on tap, including 20 brewed in-house and 10 guest taps from other local breweries. They welcome everyone from experts to novice beer drinkers (like me), so just ask for a recommendation if you’re unsure. They also have menu of West Coast American style, hand stretched pizzas and other small snacks. The dough is made with their Everybody Loves Pale Ale. It was more crunchy than dough like. 🍕 The pizzas had a lot of sauce (housemade!) which almost drowned out the rest of the flavours and I didn’t like the choice of olives. Regardless, it’s great that they have some food options to snack on, beer is the real star of the show here. It’s a very humble, hidden spot, great for groups although they only have a few tables. We visited a while back during the AFL finals, where they had the game playing on a projector. 🏈 ⭐️ 3/5 (5/5 beer selection though) 💸 $$

Westside Ale Works is a hidden gem tucked away in a quiet laneway, and discovering it was an absolute delight. The space is small, cozy, and full of charm — perfect for a casual hangout with friends or a laid-back beer tasting session. They offer an impressive range of craft beers, and we tried the Red Roo IPA and Weekend Juice NEIPA — both were outstanding. The Red Roo IPA had a bold, hoppy character with a smooth malt finish, while the Weekend Juice NEIPA was hazy, juicy, and packed with tropical flavours. What made the experience even better? A side of freshly popped popcorn — simple, but such a fun and nostalgic touch. It was an absolute bliss. Definitely a must-visit for craft beer lovers looking for a relaxed, welcoming spot with quality brews.

We came here 2 years ago, and decided to pay them a visit. They have an extensive beer selection (20 to be exact), with specialty that includes American Pale Ales, West Coast IPAs, American Sours, and Stouts. The friendly staff can help out with recommendations. We also ordered Mexicali pizza (with salami, garlic & Jalapeño - $25) & So Cal pizza (pepperoni, mushroom, black olives & artichoke - $25). While we had to wait for 35min, it was served pipping hot with fresh ingredients. We enjoyed it with the beer. A good place for lots of beer options, and pizzas. Just prepare yourself to wait to get the food.

Horrible customer service. We left the place starving! My partner & I attended a dinner party tonight & the restaurant was aware of this. They were SO badly Understaffed & Underprepared. We ordered a large pizza at 8pm. We kept checking up on our order & the staff behind the counter told us it will be there and to just wait at the table he ordered it at. Neither of us moved from that table & finally after an hour when we went to follow up again for our pizza, they told us that they had stopped their service (for food) for the night. The lady was SO Unapologetic & RUDE to us, it was shocking. I understand it was busy but that’s their job and how just how can you not have food to serve a customer at 9pm when the place shuts at 11pm. The lady couldn’t care less & just said she brought out the pizza we placed the order for somewhere (to some other table). I mean they couldn’t even keep track of who they were serving. Afterward, they didn’t even have the decency to offer us something else to eat. We were there for an entire evening HUNGRY. The location of the place was so tucked away so we couldn’t even step out and get something else to eat on this cold night. I don’t believe we’ve had such poor customer service anywhere!! We’re currently at a McDonalds to get something to eat on...

Quietly tucked away in the corner of South Melbourne, this hidden gem punches above it’s weight in terms quality and wide variety of crafts beer on tap, brewed in-house including many guest beers on rotation.

The head brewer is from California and draws on his origin to create his own unique take on craftsbeer.

Located in an industrial warehouse, the setting is quite casual, albeit relaxing and great place to kick back with your mates without having to struggle to talk to someone, which could be problematic at other breweries where it could get too loud and rowdy.

Food offering is limited to pizzas and nachos, however is reasonably priced and enough to feed the munchies. (Highly recommend the nachos for sharing, probably one of the best nachos I had at a brewery/pub, properly done with the right amount of toppings, this is coming from someone who have had nacho served with cheap melted cheese over chips many times)

If you’re coming during winter, bring a jacket since it could get a bit cold or even better just drink more beer, I find that...
