Since its establishment in 1971, Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery (MPRG) has grown to become one of Australia’s leading regional galleries, renowned for its exhibition program of Australian and international art.

The Gallery embraces traditional and contemporary art in all its forms, ensuring there’s something for everyone. National touring exhibitions and MPRG-curated exhibitions offer a rich cultural experience for the local community as well as visitors to the region – many travelling the easy distance from Melbourne to enjoy the Mornington Peninsula’s beautiful coastal scenery and hinterland.

MPRG-curated exhibitions often explore the distinctive coastal environment and feature works by Australian artists with a connection to the Mornington Peninsula. The Gallery also showcases its outstanding collection, which focuses on the cultural heritage of the Mornington Peninsula and contemporary Australian works on paper.

Through events organised by the Gallery, visitors are able to engage more fully with the art and the artists. The Gallery conducts lectures, excursions, artist talks and workshops. It also has an important education program to help cultivate an interest in art in students of all year levels.

The Gallery is the region’s major cultural facility and is supported by Mornington Peninsula Shire Council and...

I attended one of the VCE arts programs over the holidays and I couldn't sing high enough praises. I went to learn more about different possible ideas for folios and how some of the highest scoring VCE students formatted their own folios. Along with being taken through the different exhibitions on display, we were taught how different abstract ideas can be made by something simple, and that even simply sketching can form gallery worthy pieces. Not only were those attending provided highly useful insight on different ways of forming folios and concept pieces, but we were also provided art books to take home for us to use as inspiration in the future, and to understand out personal art styles and subject matters. Atop of all of this, our teacher of sorts, Jill, was incredibly kind, offered some of the best advice, and showed a genuine interest in our opinions and views. She even offered to give me additional advice should i request about my own folio and how to better it.

All in all, this gallery houses some incredible exhibitions (especially the New Wave exhibitions), incredibly kind and helpful staff, and an experience and tips that one could only dream of.

If you get the chance, please fo to this gallery, it is one of a kind in the best...

Visited the current exhibition, National Works on Paper. Simply blown away by the works on display! The variety of styles, mark making, subject matter and in some cases, sheer technical brilliance is truly impressive. Some of the works triggered strong emotional responses and almost all commanded careful scrutiny. Some of the works are epic in scale, and others are exquisite in their delicate design, detail, and exacting production. It's always a pleasure to visit the beautiful MPRG, but for us this was absolutely one of the best exhibitions we have attended - anywhere. And it's free! The photos don't even get close to matching the wonder of seeing the works up close; just go see for yourself. Highly...

I had a wonderful visit to the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery. The staff was not only friendly but also highly knowledgeable, which added depth to the experience. The gallery itself is a charming small space, creating an intimate atmosphere for art appreciation. One highlight was having the Archibald Prize Exhibition available locally. It's a fantastic opportunity for art enthusiasts in the area to enjoy this prestigious exhibition without having to travel far. Overall, a great cultural destination for anyone interested in art and a delightful addition to the local community.

I’ve followed MPRG on social media and was pleased that I could visit while in the area, I wasn’t disappointed. The setting and the building is beautiful and exhibits very well presented. I was particularly impressed with three etchings by Sophie Perez displayed near the entrance.
