I recently visited Commonfolk and found it, as always, to have a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. The café remains a favorite for locals and visitors seeking a relaxed, pet-friendly setting—dogs are always a plus.

Service The staff were polite, but I found them less helpful than on previous visits. My friend, who prefers to use a Keep Cup for sustainability, experienced a bit of friction at the counter—the staff seemed uninterested in accommodating his eco-friendly choice, though he did get his coffee served in the cup eventually.

Food & Drinks Our meals arrived promptly, which was appreciated. We ordered a variety of dishes:

Chilli Scrambled Eggs — These were enjoyable and arrived in good time. I like the inclusion of half serves something long overdue. scrambled eggs, Ugandan chilli crunch, preserved lemon labneh, braised beans, fried mint, sourdough | GFO, VEG 26.5 / 18 half serve

Burger — My mate, who’s been to Commonfolk before, felt the burger this time didn’t meet the usual standard. It was quite chunky, and though I personally enjoyed finishing it, it didn’t live up to his previous experiences.

Coffee Paddle — Another friend tried the coffee paddle, which seemed like a fun idea but ultimately didn’t work out, as the coffees cooled quickly, making the tasting less enjoyable.

Coffee Preferences — I prefer my coffee with cream, but this option wasn’t easily accommodated, so next time I may need to bring my own.

Atmosphere The old, welcoming vibe is consistent and definitely one of Commonfolk’s strengths.

Reasonable pricing makes it accessible for most, especially considering the quality and variety offered.

Pet-friendly policy outdoors is a big plus.

Practicalities Parking is challenging, as the café is set in an industrial estate, so arrive early or be prepared to search for a spot.

Bookings are essential; sessions are timed. We were asked to give up our table after two hours, but to their credit, staff offered us another table outside.

Summary Atmosphere: Warm, relaxed, and welcoming

Service: Polite but could be more accommodating

Food: Timely and enjoyable overall, but quality varies by dish

Coffee: Good quality, but alternative preferences (like cream) not always available or encouraged

Extras: Pet-friendly outdoor seating

Parking: Limited; plan ahead

Bookings: Recommended, with time limits for seating

Public Holidays - A 20% surcharge applies

Despite some minor drawbacks, Commonfolk remains a great spot for casual catch-ups—just be sure to bring your patience (and maybe your own...

Clearly coming here at noon on a Sunday is when you'll find this place absolutely buzzing. A birthday celebration, young couples, new parents and friends - all come here for an amazing culinary experience. In what appears a suburban warehouse, it's more in an industrial area of Mornington, this is well worth a visit, particularly if you're a coffee aficionado. I chose the 'Good Morning Vietnam' meal which consists of banh mi with house marinated and roasted char sui pork, fried egg, freh chilli, coriander, fresh mayo all in a bun with a little dish of pickles on the side. Size was reasonable, with a generous helping of pork that was cooked to perfection. My friend had the Springtime Salad that frankly, takes your breath away when it arrives at the table. Made of harissa roasted pumpkin, red quinoa, charred spring onions, pomegranate, toasted hazelnuts, pepita seeds, sesame, roasted garlic and tahini dressing. An exceptional portion size but light and refreshing on the palete. Our litle 18 month companion had scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. Again, very delicious. Now onto the coffee - yep this is a great place for any hot beverage and certainly my chai was nice, although it could've been hotter. My friend's coffee was ideal and ordering extra strong was just what the doctor ordered. For those with a sweet tooth, there are some lovely looking cakes at the counter if you want a coffee and cake to go. The seating is industrial on large tables, some with chairs, some with stools. There is a lovely rear courtyard garden that could easily seat 30 people under umbrellas and surrounded by nice artwork. A special mention to the staff and chefs who do an amazing job with customer service and food preparation considering the volume of people that were here today. Notes: wheelchair accessible, disabled friendly, kid friendly with high chairs available, reasonable parking...

I can not thank Commonfolk enough for mine and my husband's wedding in March this year! From the very beginning they have been excellent to work with; Shannon their day coordinator was absolutely amazing answering all my questions, meeting up multiple times to run through everything, answering all my emails and texts, she truely is an angel. Through out the process Shan really helped me through all the wedding planning and all the stresses that come with it.

As for the day itself, everyone couldn't stop raving about how amazing their food was; not a single person left hungry and everyone made it known how full they were and how excellent the service and the staff were. Their espresso martinis were an absolute hit and a special mention to their squid canapes (so much good feed back on that particular one). If you're worried about not being enough food, you do not need to worry at all! There was plenty.

Angie who was there to co-ordinate our day was a godsend; she made the whole ceremony and reception run swimmingly and was always looking out for the best of us making sure we were fed, hydrated and happy; whilst also managing the food services, the drinks and the staff. We didn't have to worry about a thing.

The venue itself is trendy and has a fun atmosphere suitable for what we were after; they did not disappoint. We found commonfolk to be the best value for our money in regards to the packages they provided; we've gone to many places for quotes for cocktail style weddings and we just couldn't find anywhere that was reasonably priced for the Peninsula until we went to Commonfolk.

So if you're looking for a venue for a cocktail style wedding or birthdays or any functions for that matter, I recommend meeting up and having a chat with these guys because they have been amazing.

Thank you for having us and thank you for helping us have the...
