I find 2nd Ave IGA is a great option for those days you need a quick meal option after workout or even on the way home from staying back a little late at work. They have an awesome roast bar, where at the end of the day you'll get a packed roast dinner ready to go at discounted price. They have a fantastic selection of gourmet cheeses and packed high-brow salads (quinoa, kale, beetroot, those types) and fruit salads. They have gourmet dips and snacks that are way too expensive! (Sometimes they're so tempting though but I can't justify paying $7 for a 150g jar of beetroot fetta dip.) They have microwave curries and pies and pasta meals and even meat-free options on these! What stands out when you're in the fresh kitchen bar is their selection of pastries and cakes and protein balls. Yummo!
They have a great selection of condiments and snacks and lollies from overseas, say South Africa, England, France, Spain etc for those who want to go the extra mile to stock these items in their pantry. Their selection for alternative lifestyle diets are excellent, probably one of the best in a commercial supermarket. I feel like 2nd Ave IGA is trying to compete a little with Fresh Provisions down the street but I don't think it's quite there yet. I'm not sure. Or maybe an alternative to Fresh Provisions, not quite a competitor. They offer slightly different experiences to the customer. Their store layouts are very different so what would appeal to customers as they walk into each of the stores I think are what sets them apart.
Finally, I used to live on 2nd Ave itself so have done lots of home marketing here but I believe it's only for emergencies - soy milk, bread, coconut milk, house party items, etc as it's super expensive. Mind you, the fresh produce is excellent though. But best leave your house grocery shopping to a normal IGA or Coles or Woolies and the fresh fruit and...
Read moreHaving been a regular customer since IGA's 2nd Ave store first opened, I have been disappointed by the service in the last 3-4 weeks in the Deli section with certain morning shift staff's behaviour in the Deli section. It has been appalling; when you take into consideration the 'top dollar' IGA 2nd Ave charges you wouldn’t imagine receiving this level of service.
This has been compounded by the recently appointed store manager's inability to resolve the issue. I was essentially told I abused staffs, which i did not, and he was not willing in any capacity to consider another version of events.
I have managed and run a number of businesses over the years while working with the "public" too, so I would never "waltz" into the store seeking a resolution if I had abused staff - I would be offering an apology if this were the case.
I have taken the effort to inform management as a concern customer of the systemic issues with some of the morning shift staff's attitude in the Deli section, who have been previously reprimanded for poor service. It would appear that these staff have potentially colluded creating a false narrative regarding the events - Scary stuff.
All I have asked was for was the security camera footage to be reviewed - like I had requested previously a number of months earlier when a similar issue arose, as cameras never lie. In the previous circumstance, it was discovered that there had been poor service - resulting in an apology to me and an improvement in the service in that department.
I have tried to resolve this in person in store on 2-3 occasions, but after this morning… I have been left shaking my head in disbelief at...
Read moreThis is my local. Have used it for years now for its convenience, range and location. Yes it is a little more expensive for certain items not on sale but that is the price you pay for the other benefits mentioned. The staff are always helpful, engaged and friendly. Thnk you for that. I am not objecting to change - change is often good. But this store used to be my go to. Unfortunately since it has changed hands things and become a Good Grocer, standards have slipped considerably in terms of range, consistant availability of product and quality. I can no longer go there and be sure I am going to find what I need - often faced with empty spaces of stock, poor range of fruit and vegetables, stock which is either close to date or out of date, limited choice or no bread - if I want the mass produced I would go to Coles, all of the nice brands of premade meals, pizza, garlic bread have changed to others - those weird vaccum compressed, or a million "good grocer" options which I get is good for stock flow but at best is essentially home brand and at worst is removing choice for the consumer - which is why I try and shop local independant. I now find myself reconsidering using the competition down the road - which I always shopped at because it IS always reliable in terms of helpful staff, quality of product and product availability. The only downer there is the parking. Please do not become yet another boring local - you...
