Nelson Head Lighthouse Reserve Museum — Attraction in Nelson Bay

The history contained in the museum is super interesting, but it's not presented in chronological order (or any other discernible order) and thus feels messy and overwhelming. I was excited to get to walk around the keeper's house but was sorely disappointed.

The lighthouse was... Not there? Not sure if I missed something here, but if I did it's because it's poorly laid out and signposted. There is A LOT of emphasis on the gift shop and tea house and little on anything else.

There is limited parking so you may be faced with a hike up the hill or a wait...

Female staff were all really nice and pleasant, had a lovely chat to the ladies in the gift shop, however was approached and abused by a male staff member for blocking his access to the staff carpark while we took 30 seconds to put the wheelchair in our car in the disabled parking section

As for the museum, it's a cute little museum with just a few small rooms, but for the gold coin donation for entry it's worth...

Only a gold coin donation the museum is situated in 3 rooms of the lighthouse cottage. One room consists of some local shipping history, one room is about the gun emplacements and ww2 history and the third about the marine rescue history. There is a gift shop and nearby tea rooms as well. Not very many car parks so you might have...
