Lived in the area for 18months and found this place in the few months before we moved. The food and service here is fantastic, and since we have moved we have been searching for another Korean place to replace the experience we had here with no luck. The Kimichi Stew was a real treat in winter. We haven't found a place that makes such good dumplings and fried seaweed paper rolls. Most places don't even have the seaweed paper rolls on the menu. Honestly looking forward to a holiday to the area just to come back here with the family for dinner.

Here’s where we ate for NYE in Nelson’s Bay! No lines, no wait and tasty food! Korean food @giwachickenandbeer close to Nelson’s Bay and Shoal Bay. This is the spicy fried cheesy chicken! So crunchy, delicious and a good kick to it. They also had some very good beer battered fries, fried dumplings and bibimbap. When dining in, you can also have your share of their salad bar. A bottle of their Soju is heavy! The lady serving was so nice and helpful too

We hiked to Tomaree Head yesterday, and on our way back, we passed by Nelson Bay. We looked for a nearby restaurant around there and that was so amazing place! 👍 The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the Korean food was delicious too! 🥰 The chicken was incredibly crispy and tasted authentic 🥹 They also offered unlimited salad, kimchi, and pickled radish. If you’re looking for a Korean restaurant around that area, I highly recommend this one 😍

Giwa was decent compared to some of the other similarly priced dining options within the Nelson Bay, Salamanda Bay and Shoal Bay area.

We ordered takeaway two nights in a row - the food and flavours were consistent, and the food tasted like Korean food.

The food was ready on-time when we arrived to collect it, and just as importantly, the temperature of the food was still very good when we returned home - 5 min drive.

We ordered the: prawn dumplings: Dumpling pastry was a little hard (acknowledge we are talking about fried dumplings here), and the inside filling was a little dry; bulgogi sizzle plate: Very nice. A good portion of beef and well balanced with vegetables; kimchi stew

The two little containers of pickled vegetables (including kimchi) were crisp and sweet and a nice little treat.

We'll definitely be back for the fried chicken...

Local whos been at least 3 times and I get more and more impressed every time. Friend chicken lovers, come here. It is the best fried chicken anywhere. Try the sweet and spicy, we literally fight over leftovers. Gladiator style. Totally worth it. We had our first bbq set and everything was just perfection. The staff are always friendly and fast. Ive NEVER experienced a language barrier, and Im like a bug, I introduce myself to everyone and have conversations with as many people as possible. Every single staff member is just lovely. The restaurant is always clean and ambience is always fantastic. We did not expect the amount of food to come out, and we were so amazed at how well prepared and cooked everything was. Between 4 people with drinks, we spent $220 and EVERY DOLLAR WAS WORTH IT! Cant wait to come back and spend more...

Drove up from our place at Fishing Point Lake Macquarie for a fortnight stay at Nelson Bay. First stop Giwa Chicken and Beer Korean restaurant for lunch. Quaint little restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. For our first visit we played it safe and ordered Original Chicken as the special of the day which also gave us access to the all you can eat salad bar. Perfectly cooked chicken in the traditional Korean style and plenty of it. We are enthusiasts of Korean food and had already planned our next visit in a couple of days for the Bulgogi and Seafood pancake. Just discovered a notice from management at Giwa that as of 15/9 they will only be operating during the evenings as a takeaway chicken outlet. Sad and...
