Giwa was decent compared to some of the other similarly priced dining options within the Nelson Bay, Salamanda Bay and Shoal Bay area.
We ordered takeaway two nights in a row - the food and flavours were consistent, and the food tasted like Korean food.
The food was ready on-time when we arrived to collect it, and just as importantly, the temperature of the food was still very good when we returned home - 5 min drive.
We ordered the: prawn dumplings: Dumpling pastry was a little hard (acknowledge we are talking about fried dumplings here), and the inside filling was a little dry; bulgogi sizzle plate: Very nice. A good portion of beef and well balanced with vegetables; kimchi stew
The two little containers of pickled vegetables (including kimchi) were crisp and sweet and a nice little treat.
We'll definitely be back for the fried chicken...
Read moreLocal whos been at least 3 times and I get more and more impressed every time. Friend chicken lovers, come here. It is the best fried chicken anywhere. Try the sweet and spicy, we literally fight over leftovers. Gladiator style. Totally worth it. We had our first bbq set and everything was just perfection. The staff are always friendly and fast. Ive NEVER experienced a language barrier, and Im like a bug, I introduce myself to everyone and have conversations with as many people as possible. Every single staff member is just lovely. The restaurant is always clean and ambience is always fantastic. We did not expect the amount of food to come out, and we were so amazed at how well prepared and cooked everything was. Between 4 people with drinks, we spent $220 and EVERY DOLLAR WAS WORTH IT! Cant wait to come back and spend more...
Read moreDrove up from our place at Fishing Point Lake Macquarie for a fortnight stay at Nelson Bay. First stop Giwa Chicken and Beer Korean restaurant for lunch. Quaint little restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. For our first visit we played it safe and ordered Original Chicken as the special of the day which also gave us access to the all you can eat salad bar. Perfectly cooked chicken in the traditional Korean style and plenty of it. We are enthusiasts of Korean food and had already planned our next visit in a couple of days for the Bulgogi and Seafood pancake. Just discovered a notice from management at Giwa that as of 15/9 they will only be operating during the evenings as a takeaway chicken outlet. Sad and...
