Drove 2 hrs for my dogs, only to find it closed, went to Wentworth falls only to find dogs aren't even allowed at the lookout.
So we drove again to go to Leura picnic area, only to find that closed too. Complete waste of our day. I always abide the dog ban in national parks, but national parks don't make it easy with such a meager choice. You're really pushing people to break rules when there are no dog friendly trails within an1hr drive, 0 alternatives. This trail's apparently been closed for 6months and will be closed for more, what are dog owners to do as a replacement?! Atleast make a nearby trail tempoarily dog friendly.
Some places(wentworth, leura) are so loaded with tourists 24/7 there's really no point keeping the dog ban, when you have people yelling screaming, breaking the peace. No native fauna is going to come visit Leura cascades with tour bus loads of people...
Read moreI live a walk that is easy access, has lots to see and is mostly flat and downhill. It was a busy public holiday Sunday so we didn’t get much peace or solitude, but all the kids really liked the walk. It was special to have the creek just flowing along beside us. Babbling away, little waterfalls every so often. This was winter after lots of rain and a glorious sunny day. There are toilets at the top at wilson park and at the Wentworth falls picnic area at the end, but nothing in between. On the day we went there was a detour in place which added about 25% to the trip back up along the road. All in all a great walk, recommend it if you have the extra time to walk back. Which is uphill. But better than walking back...
Read moreThe Darwin walk hike itself was an easy hike to Wentworth falls. Well marked trail and maintained. Awesome to walk the same path as Charles Darwin and a must if you are a student of Anthropology. Now if you want get adventurous! We started on the Darwin trail 12hrs, connected to the partial closed national pass trail 12hrs and then to Wentworth falls trail 4~5hrs, finishing at the Wentworth observation deck. Pass by several waterfalls, amazing scenic views of the blue mountains. Definitely worth it if you're an avid hiker!! Warning- the bus stop outside observation stops early so start early to catch the bus back into town for a much needed coffee...
