The Manly Art Museum is a charming gallery with a peaceful atmosphere and a thoughtfully curated selection of exhibitions. The staff are generally friendly, and the space is a nice cultural stop in Manly. Since my parents just bought a house nearby, I’ve been exploring the area to get to know the surroundings, and the museum seemed like a great place to start.
That said, my experience was slightly mixed. As a 25-year-old Chinese visitor carrying a backpack, I was asked to leave my bag at reception due to concerns it might inadvertently damage the galleries. While I understand the reasoning and the importance of protecting artworks, the way it was handled felt a little uncomfortable and carried a subtle undertone of bias as most other visitors are white elderly people, i guess the receptionist may find Asian less "reliable" 😆 I chose not to make an issue of it—especially since the receptionist was elderly and likely just following protocol—but it did leave me wishing for a bit more sensitivity. It always has interesting, beautifully mounted and curated exhibitions thanks to its highly professional and dedicated staff and loyal volunteers. It's location and the views of the Harbour beach and ferry wharf are unbeatable. In addition to temporary exhibitions MAGM boasts a permanent collection of art and objects relating to the district that are fascinating culturally.

The permanent exhibits quite good place to spend sometime if you are bored around manly beach. Clean, well maintained, air conditioned and spacious.
It has ceramics from different parts of the world, including European, Asian and aboriginal works. Next to that, it’s very well organized.
The entry is free, however you need to pay if you wish to visit an additional exposition.
