The admission price made me question if I should spend the time and money. In the end, I did. We arrived at Scenic World via public transport. We took bus 686 from the stop in front of Carrington Hotel (a short walk from Katoomba Train Station). The bus ride took about 20 minutes. It made a slight detour to Echo Point, passed by the East Station of the Scenic Skyway, before arriving at the main building of Scenic World. I decided to buy our tickets on site as the online price seemed higher. Here’s when I found some discrepancies in pricing for the Unlimited Discovery Pass for Adults, which allowed for unlimited rides and entrances within a day. It was AUD50 on the website. When I clicked to purchase, the price was AUD53. At the ticket counter, it was AUD54. Anyway, it was no biggie. Maybe someone forgot to update the price on one of the website pages. The staff at the ticket counter was polite and provided a quick suggestion on how to navigate Scenic World. Take the Scenic Skytrain (yellow ride) across the Jamison Valley and back. Then take the Scenic Railway (red), a sharp steep ride downwards to the valley. Walk around 3 trails of varying lengths (10, 30 or 50 min), and take the Scenic Cableway (blue) back up. As tourists who blindly followed the crowd, we ended up starting with the red ride instead as we joined the wrong queue. No biggie. It’s a bit scary if you have a fear of heights as the ride descends. But it’s not too long a ride, and there are handles to grab on to. After we got off the ride, our fellow visitors started to disperse as each party started along the boardwalk at their own pace, or just turned around and headed right back up. The boardwalk was pretty much shaded by the trees with maps and signs along the way. Some of the trails were marked as easy, and some as medium in terms of difficulty. We took our time along what I thought was the 50 min trail and took lots of pics. We spent about 80 minutes in the valley before heading back up in the blue ride. In the main building, the Terrace Cafe and Bar sold snacks like hot dogs, wraps and drinks. There’s also EATS270, an eatery that sold burgers, salad and cold drinks. We ordered a veggie burger, chicken wings, pumpkin soup and a drink. The damage was approx AUD$60. I found the food okay but the dealbreaker had to be the choice of seats with the fantastic views (if I’m not wrong, you don’t need a ticket into Scenic World to dine here). After lunch, we took the Skyway (yellow ride) across the Jamison Valley to the East Station. We had the fortune of having Jay, a great commentator who was friendly and had a great sense of humor. In fact, most of the staff at Scenic World were very nice and friendly. After alighting at the Skyway East Station, we followed a short 10 minute trail to the Katoomba Falls. There were also trails that led to other spots but we took the Skyway back after spending about 50 minutes around the area taking photos and such. The East Station was where the bus 686 stopped on the way to Scenic World. (You could also get into Scenic World from here, altho I’m unsure if it’s more expensive as there was a sign indicating that the same pass I bought came at a maximum price of AUD62). We arrived around 11am but left close to 4pm (the closing time on a Friday in July). The bus was almost empty when it arrived, but was packed when it left. Maybe we should have taken the bus from the East Station just to get on board first. In a nutshell, it was not a bad way to spend some of our hard earned cash and time since wandering around nature was our thing. It’s family friendly. The rides were a nice bonus (thought might be scary for those afraid of heights). And at times, we felt like we were in Jurassic Park.

Overall, I enjoyed my time at Scenic World - but have mixed feelings about the Dinosaur Valley exhibit. Firstly, the Skyway was out of operation during my visit (closed untill 24 November) and the 50 minute walking trail was closed due to high fire danger (understandable). We bought the unlimited pass (AUD50 per person 😳) to ride both Cableway and Railway up and down the valley as many times as we wanted. The railway is the best! I forgot how steep it is. The valley is much cooler, thanks to the abundant shade from beautiful trees. There are elevated walking paths throughout the 10 and 30 minute trails, accessible to most. There are wild vines that occasionally crowd the path. The Dinosaur Valley is clearly aimed at children. I actually found the animatronics entertaining and fun to photograph. The information placards appealed to the nerd in me. But the dinosaur 'sounds' ... while it does give a Jurassic Park vibe, the sounds are quite loud, intruding on the otherwise peaceful and quiet nature of the valley. My sister found the dinosaurs distracting. Again, they are clearly for children and young families, not 30-40 year olds. I am not sure how long this Dinosaur Valley exhibit will run for. Or if it's a permanent fixture. Just be aware you will not be getting a quiet, serene experience with all the dinosaur sounds 😅

We had a wonderful day at Scenic World - the service was amazing, the food was good and the wait times for the rides were quick. However, in the line for the railway ride, a man by the name of Ben was trying to organise visitors into even groups of four. Ben was trying to separate a family of 5 so one person had to sit with a group of visitors they didn't know. The family protested Ben's instructions and insisted they wanted to sit in a group of 3 and a group of 2. Ben proceeded to get into a heated shouting match with the family (including a child almost getting into tears about having to sit alone) until they eventually agreed for one person to sit with 3 random visitors. However, it turned out that Ben was actually a tour guide who didn't even work at Scenic World and was trying to cram his tour group into the ride as quickly as possible, ruining the experience for all other visitors. When it was time to take our seats in the railway ride, the Scenic World staff allowed the family to sit in groups of 3 and 2 as they had initially intended. Ben also tried grouping my partner and I with two other visitors however, we received different instructions from an actual Scenic World staff member to sit by ourselves. The conflicting instructions from Ben and the actual Scenic World staff caused confusion amongst all visitors. Ben kept trying to shout instructions to all visitors but was getting drowned out by some background music that was playing. Ben then demanded the Scenic World staff to turn the music down so everyone could hear him but thankfully the staff ignored his request. Ben turned what was a memorable day into an extremely weird and awkward situation. We felt the staff should have quickly put a stop to Ben acting as a staff member, just as they would have done to any other VISITOR. I fear that those who speak limited English would be bullied and intimidated by Ben's tactics and have their Scenic World experience ruined.

Come here if you want to waste your money and be pushed, shoved and annoyed by arrogant tourists who believe they are the only people who exist in the world. If you want to miss out on all the views because Scenic World oversells their tickets and overfills their rides then this is the place for you. Technically they can’t overfill their railway ride but this still sucked as we had to ask two tourists to move over (as it was four person seating) and were given dirty looks and still had to push to just get into our allocated seats. You can see the staff are fed up with these tourists too. We booked a 1:30pm time slot yet arrived at 1pm and were let in. We only did one ride (out of three) both ways, the others just one way as the wait times were so extensive. It took over 2 hours of waiting and we had about 5 minutes of ride time. Maybe this would’ve been okay if we could actually see anything, but again, rides overstuffed and international tourists will push you out of the way and stand on you without a care in the world. Once we (finally!) got back after doing the bare minimum trying to get our moneys worth the restaurant was shut and last calls for rides were happening. You also feel very stuck once you take a ride as there are no toilets, food or drinks on the other side. There was also no time to do any of the walks we were recommend upon entry. It baffles me that they book time slots much later than 1:30pm when there is no way you’d be able to do everything with their wait times. We came on a Monday in off season just to put this into perspective, I would hate to see this place on a weekend. My one star is for the lovely stuff, every interaction we had with them they were friendly and helpful. Also if you have a bigger car you may need to park on the grass as their car park is only 2m high. Very disappointed and would not recommend this to anyone.

Pretty beautiful views. The rides were short (5 mins) but beautiful views which were worth it. One of the rides goes through the rocks (I’ll call roller coaster ride) ! Which was so cool and the best I’d say. Make sure don’t take take the roller coaster ride from the top entrance (where you en enter) and enter this ride after doing the scenic walk because you’ll have more of chance of being at front of this ride with better views and you don’t to wait in massive line. Cause if you enter the ride from the usual top entrance then you’ll mostly likely wait forever in the line and end up sitting at the middle or back of this ride. Also If you go from the bottom entrance the rides go backwards which was still really cool. I would highly advise getting there between 9am-10.30am to miss the ridiculous long lined. we got there at 11am and at about 12pm the line were way to long but we lucky enough and did all the rides before rush hour. The scenic walk was also nice they had large fake dinosaurs in the bushes which was kinda weird tbh but I’m sure the kids around loved it. For a 1hr from Sydney we enjoyed it! You can take the other rides from the top entrance. The food isn’t great I’d say average - not bad but not amazing which was expected - I got fish and chips.
