Little known hidden gem attraction in the Inner West of Sydney. Only open on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. The setup is impressive with restored vintage buses housed in a large warehouse/hangar. Some buses you can go on, including upstairs on the double deckers. They also have a red London double decker and the old Hong Kong double deckers.

I enjoyed seeing buses from my childhood (with the vinyl blue tartan print). My mum enjoyed seeing the double decker buses from the 1960s that she used to catch in the city to work. The signage is very detailed especially the World War 2 exhibit with lots of facts I didn't know.

There are also displays of models, old uniforms and tickets, signage, bus stops and benches.

The highlight was catching the vintage double decker bus from the museum to Park Street in the city. We sat up on the top deck at the front and it was quite a different view of ANZAC Bridge as the bus chugged along. We got off in the city to have lunch but there is the option to do a round trip, return later or start your journey in the city out to the museum then back to the city (which I would recommend for tourists.

The place is run by enthusiastic volunteers who know their stuff and their passion shines through. There is a gift shop onsite that sells books, models and collectors items and well as chips and soft drinks / water. They make annoucements when the buses are departing so you can queue up outside.

Great day out, nostalgic and the kids looked like they were loving it too! $22 for adults which...

Definitely worth a visit, especially for the little ones. Maybe not as big as you would expect, but a few hours of good fun for little bus lovers.

Some pros n cons: Not crowded, reasonably busy. Most of the times your kid would own the space of a whole bus. However: more than half of the buses are for looking only, no entry. Don’t be fooled by the amount of vehicles in sight. Some of the buses have vacant driver seat. The bus ride was EPIC. A vintage double decker runs every 30mins, for free for visitors and unlimited rides on the day. Take your kid and ride to Town Hall, have a little shopping and lunch, and a free ride back. If your kid wants to take it again, you can even stay on the bus and just to see all the scenery. During the ride, a tour guide in disguise of a ticket conductor would show up, introduce the bus and give you tickets, which was an AMAZING experience. Very limited items in the souvenir shop. I suggest work on that place. This is the first time ever that I wasn’t satisfied with a souvenir shop LOL. Don’t get me wrong as only because the museum made us happy so we expected to bring a few buses home. Even not buses, put some diecast cars there and you would make sales.

As an adult, you might only visit once. But your kid would wish to...

A lot of transport history of buses in the museum and well maintained historic bus fleet all by volunteers. SydneyBus Museum is Located in Leichhardt NSW. Easy to get to from City West link then Norton st then William st then left into Derbyshire rd. Parking located on Derbyshire Rd (limited parking on weekends only) and William Street (parking any time) or Henry Street (parking any time). Mainly open on weekends 1st and 3rd sundays of the month and school holidays, check out the website for information to other opening times and special events/ bus rides/ trips. Heritage bus rides/ trips on single or double decker buses to the city or bays included in entry price to the museum around $20 each adult in 2023. Plenty of buses and exhibits to look at inside the museum. A new Inter-active display of destination signage for the kids to type in destinations on the signage wall. The bus service they ran from central station today was horrible. Rude staff shouting next to my ears three time at different people on the bus. Saying their arms were outside of the bus…to be fair, their hands were within the bus and they were all audits. Why did he have to scream so loud in the bus while there were so many other people in the bus??? I didn’t do anything but got screamed at next to ears??? Also the words he used was rude like “I said it already, dont put your hands out!!!!!!!” They really should work on their staff to talk nicely…shouting and being rude it not the solution…writing this because my mood was ruined…very disappointed

Excellent museum that is entirely volunteer run. Special events like Hong Kong bus day, busfest or the like are the best bus events to attend in Australia. Hong Kong or London bus days offer a chance to ride iconic foreign vehicles without having to leave Australia, and in case of Hong Kong bus day, offers an experience that is impossible anymore in Hong Kong, as the attendance will show the popularity of the museum's exhibits and their special events; to the point that people are willing to travel from interstate and overseas specifically to visit. Such is the power and allure of the museum, its exhibits and special events.
