Read moreMy wife and I have been here a few times over the years and have always had an amazing experience. We recently moved back to Sydney from interstate and thought we would come here for my birthday dinner last night.
We ordered the 3 courses, $75 pp. I don’t remember this being available a few years ago, but it’s definitely welcomed for the food experience. For entree, we ordered the ceviche and beef carpaccio. I have never eaten anything so slowly in my life. The beef carpaccio in particular was mind blowing. The ceviche was so fresh and tasty.
For mains, I ordered the eye fillet, medium rare and my wife ordered the lamb shanks. The eye fillet with the mushroom jus is one of the tastiest things I’ve ever eaten. Absolutely perfectly cooked, flavours so well balanced. I could lick the plate. My wife’s lamb shanks were so well seasoned and so tender, she absolutely loved it.
For dessert, I ordered the Creme brûlée and my wife ordered the chocolate fondant. Such a perfect end to a fantastic dining experience. The bottle of Shiraz we shared over the 3 courses was also very tasty and we left completely satisfied
Service was fantastic as usual, everything came out very quickly. This is a hidden gem in Leichhardt, it’s not that well known but I think this restaurant would give some of the more high priced restaurants in Sydney a run...
Read moreMy wife and I were regulars of "monte" from the time it opened until we started travelling a couple of years ago.
Upon our return to Sydney last week, one of the first things we did was to revisit this gem of a restaurant at lunch time to see if it was still as good as it used to be. I can't tell you how happy we were when we walked in to see Louis (chef/owner) busy in the kitchen. It's like knowing that you're in safe hands and your meal will be amazing. What we had was better than amazing.
I'm not an "entree" person ("mains and desserts" for me) whereas wifey is more "entree and mains". She ordered the Duck Liver Pate and the Crispy Skin Pork Belly - me the Eye Fillet and the Passion Fruit Souffle.
When the Pate arrived, wifey said "you've really got to try this" - which I did. It was just sensational.
The mains arrived and, I have to say, it's the best Eye Fillet I've ever had and she said the Pork Belly was full of flavour and without that fattiness that can come with this cut of meat. We did cut off small pieces of each other's meal to taste and we didn't know which one was better. They were both that good.
To finish.....the souffle! Almost the highlight of the meal it was that good.
Best meal we've had in three years, and that includes Michelin starred restaurants in New York, Paris and...
