This is a wonderful little gem of a cafe. Family friendly. And the wait-staff were very helpful and nice. I went there at 11:15am-ish and made the right decision to order from the lunch menu (starts 11:30am). I ordered the truffle oil mushroom spaghetti and IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST TASTING DISHES I'VE EVER TREATED! So, I took a friend to try their dinner menu. The entrées were good: the 'twice baked French onion and Gruyere cheese' souffle hit the spot on a rainy and cold spring evening and the duck liver pate was a good stimulant to the taste buds and stomach for the rest of the meal. The Chef's Signature leek and chicken pie was excellent. The pie itself was very good, but the accompanied roasted brussel sprout, truffle pomme puree and pan jus gave the dish a whole dimension of flavour. I'm glad I'd decided to forgo the '4hr brined chicken' and picked the seemingly "ordinary pie". My friend enjoyed her '12hrs confit crispy skin pork belly'. For dessert, I sampled my friend's creme caramel and it was good. I had the passionfruit souffle and I think I picked the right option for me. It was light, fluffy and flavourful - the way I like it. The service was terrific. And the place itself afforded a cosy and intimate atmosphere for a friendly catch up, a date or even a fancy family meal.

A lively French inspired restaurant opposite the park on the quieter end of Norton Street. It feels classy & cosy with mix-matched French furniture & paintings. The staff are all so lovely and everything done with a smile. During the day it has a more casual feel but the food remains good. All day breakfast has ao many delicious options & the usual bacon & egg burger is made better with their special homemade sauce. Iced coffee was famtastic - strong and filled with ice cream topped with cream, chocolate rimmed glass and sprinkles. Makes me feel like a kid again! The chocolate brownie & pastries are nice but nothing special. Dinner is erring more ln the fine dining side with French dishes accented with Asian flavours. The ceviche is fresh, zesty & delicious with many contrasting textures. The french onion souffle is perfect - flavoursome, rich yet light. Both duck dishes were phenomenally good & enjoyable as was the dessert souffle - again textbook perfect. A small and concise wine list which is well priced and a $10 corkage for byo is a great deal. The chef comes out to chat to customers and overall an absolutely delightful place to dine and enjoy.

Monté has made an attempt to identify as a French eatery at least on some media platforms although the blend of other cuisines that indeed enhance the experience and flavour choices on offer, no doubt the standards are available like steak n frites, confit and grilled Duck, a fantastic desert soufflé and liver pate they also offer miso glazed Canadian Scallops, scampi linguine amoungst other delicious favourites. Chef has tried to gather great dishes from other places and serve them with a french influence, you wont find the standard shrivelled snails or boring under done quail, you will find great french onion soup, great soufflé and many other standard faves. You must try the oysters with light ginger dress, very fresh. The staff are very courteous and attentive, the light music did set the mood although the decor was a little cold. They offer all the menu choices in a 2 or 3 course fixed price with sides and some starters extra, a compact but adequate wine list with mostly reasonable pricing. All in all a good alternative and something a little different. I would suggest you give it a go. At around $90 pp plus drinks for 3 courses, good value.

A modern French restaurant that didn't quite hit the mark with dessert and ambience. Highly recommend the oysters appetiser and pate entrée. Delicious, subtle flavours and clean presentation. Steak was cooked on point. Unfortunately, on the night we visited the restaurant there was a very large and rowdy table behind us which destroyed the romantic ambience we expected from a quaint French restaurant. We could see it made many of the other patrons (including ourselves) quite uncomfortable. We could no longer converse and so we resorted to staring blankly at each other and shaking our heads. A word from management to the group may have helped the situation. The soufflé dessert, for me, was completely inedible. The passionfruit soufflé was so tart, even after pouring all the syrup on top I could not eat more than two bites. Comparable sourness to eating a lemon - it made me quite sick that I had to discard most of the dessert. Sadly, not a restaurant I would visit again. For the price, I was expecting more.

The French are not well known for their service, particularly if you are one of the dreaded "Anglais"! However the warm welcome and outstanding service at Restaurant Monté couldn't have been a bigger departure from this old norm. Wrapped in a comforting charcoal banner sparkling with well placed internal lights, the cavernous floor space of this unlikely locale is brought to life with classic bistro furniture. The well crafted menu offers boundless choices of mouthwatering morsels and includes a good number of options for those with dietary limitations (I myself can't eat gluten). Service is attentive without being invasive, charming, considerate and informed. My young French waiter, despite my protestations to the contrary, used his initiative to serve me a delicious Haha Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc to accompany my salad. For that I will remain eternally grateful. Dine here and you will enjoy. Je suis sous le charme!
