A nice park to send some time, it's got a pond. There are large variety of birds 🐦 here, there is a playground and free BBQ facilities and seating. This park also has a public swimming 🏊♂️ pool which is open even with this cold weather, 🥶 there is cafe/ restaurant in the old gardeners cottage. It’s a cross the road from broadway shopping centre. The pond had no fish, ells or turtles for a long time, from when they drained it for maintenance 🙄 the council claimed they housed the water animals and they would be returned when the maintenance was finished. I saw a female councillor supervising worker last year!!! Happy to say there are now ells in the pond!! Hopefully they return the turtles 🐢 🙏 soon. The only restrooms are in the public pool, the BBQ facilities and children's playground is only a few hundred metres away. I was playing with my nieces and they needed to use the restrooms 🚻 we spoke to pool staff, they were friendly and helpful and let my young nieces use the restrooms 🚻 thank God 😊 for that. Read moreThis average sized park is located on the corner of Parramatta Road and City Road Broadway/Chippendale. It is next to Sydney University and has a pathway that leads straight into the Uni going with a great view of the Great Hall Building as you get closer. There is also a Council Public Pool here with all the usual amenities. Bus stops on Parramatta Road going westward, away from the city. Along with bus stops on City Road side with buses going directly towards Central and the City. A few times a year on special dates such as New Years Eve the council utilises the park for the locals and tourists with lots of events happening there. The best event, (in my opinion), that is held there each year is the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Fair Day. This is held on a Sunday 2 weeks prior to the parade, (which is held in Darlinghurst). Just utilising the park as an everyday park, it has a children's playground, free BBQ's, nice shaded trees to sit under and benches all around. The highlight of all of this is the manmade shallow lake on the northern side of the park. It has been very well planned so that there is wildlife attracted to the area, such as ducks and other water fowls. They even designed it so that these winged visitors can nest there , and some do, in the natural landscaped plantings and sections. During the day there will be many people just relaxing by themselves or friends chatting and children enjoying the kids area and the lake. Can even feed some fish there, but the ducks might beat them to your bit of bread you are giving up for that sense of being in bushland, even though you are about 500m from the edge of the city and the start of the skyscrapers. All in all a pleasant park and well worth at least a check over if...
Read moreLovely spacious dog friendly green space, with a 360 pool that closes at 8pm , as well as a Turkish restaurant that opens day and night in the old caretakers cottage. Nice outdoor area doing coffee in the mornings with eats, as well as a restaurant venue at night. This cafe lines up nicely with the University of Sydney's avenue crossing a newly repaired bridge over a stream , then up some steps , to the beautiful sandstone buildings of the university and church tower.
There are formal flower beds, and established fig trees, and acres of grass sloping gently upwards from Broadway. Of course it's near Glebe village too but not called Glebe park thankfully.
It has a well established and maintained eco lake as well, with lots of wild birds ducks, and newts and fish. You can walk or cycle around the lake. The park has a barbecue set up, a playground, basketball rings . Actually there is a basketball court up top that resembles a helicopter pad and has an amazing view to the city lights at night. Table tennis too.
The park hosts events too such as Freedom day on Australia day, with music and stalls. A very big event. Also the recent Mardi Gras international. There are peaceful political rallies from time to time.
The park is lit at night, and open, and as far as I can see pretty safe. I mean safe to walk in late at night. I saw wild possums there last night and it's best to keep your dog away from them as it could turn nasty for both animals.
The only drawbacks are the noisy City road, and Broadway, and the overflowing bins and the odd person who throws trash among the water lilies of the pond. Having said that the dog bins are well cared for.
Highly...
