I have been staying at this hostel for a couple days. The first day I arrived I checked in early and made/reserved myself a bed. When I came back later in the night I found my bed occupied and I needed to sleep at the top of the same bunk bed instead of bottom. The next day I found out that the bed was used by the guy who moved “down” the linen were smelling like someone. When I told the receptionist I was given another bed in another room for the next night. I got nothing as a compensation or so. The receptionist was friendly and helpful but I got not offered a compensation or so for me sleeping in a NOT CLEAN bed. 2 days later I came back late asking if I can check in around 2 am. The receptionist on the other end of the chat, told me it was possible and gave me the code to enter the building and do my check in on the system. When I tried to do so, the system was telling me I should come back at 2 pm when check in time starts. I waited more than 3 hours to get a bed that night. Because after that message the reception didn’t answer anymore so I needed to wait until someone exits the floor and then a room to be lucky to find an empty bed. Even tho I made a booking online. However the next morning the manager came ( Daniel Acosta) she was very fast by charging me another night (which is completely legit), but not if I was told I can check in and then needed to wait for 3 hours until 5:30 am in the morning by begging other guests to pls let me in. When I tried to talk to her there was no apology or anything she told me that the mistake was on her and because she forgot that the system won’t let you check in before 2 pm. Only after explaining she came forward and said she will refund me half of the price for that night. The next day I booked another night regardless. Checked in early in the morning again and literally straight away went ftp my bed. When I requested to extend another night I was told I can’t stay anymore. When asking for the reason I was told they can’t tell me. Then I asked for a manager or owner to talk to because I would like to know the reason as this was so confusing for me. I literally went there slept and woke up doing nothing except using the bathroom once. I can’t think of doing any of that could be a crime :). However I left with no reason being present to oder and a very rude attitude towards me, even tho I just nicely asked for the reason. The only thing i was told was to ask booking. Com PS: the rooms are freezing cold and very noisy because they are close to the street, however, I took another blanked from a free bed it was waaaaay after checkin hours, (means no one else came or would need the blanket for that night) because it was so cold and the blankets are thin. Which is fine for summer season. The next morning I was being blamed by the housekeeping lady for doing so. I travelled so many countries in the world and was a manager at some point myself at accomodations like this. Never ever was taking another blanked even a reason to mention. Except at this place. 🤷♀️ I mean what do they expect that the guests freez the whole night for the sake of...
Read moreWARNING IF YOU GO HERE: BRING YOUR PASSPORT AS WELL AS DRIVERS LICENSE!!!!
I was super excited to go to the Lansdowne Hotel, I’m from Victoria and was wanting to go to their Goth event. My Victorian Drivers License was refused at the door because the security said it didn’t look like me, he asked for a second form of ID such as a passport (which I don’t have) or something on the NSW service app (which as a Victorian I don’t have).
I stepped out of the line to try and google the Laws around asking for secondary ID, I wasn’t able to find anything. So I politely re-queued in line, and asked if he could please show me where I’m able to find the information. He said that I was now being “argumentative” and that if I had an issue I “should call triple zero”. The second security guard told me “it doesn’t matter if you have a second form of ID, we’re going to refuse you entry now.”
I understand it is their job, but I was trying to problem solve the situation due to it being a paid event and pre purchased tickets. He did come over and show me on his phone the website, I googled the link and read the entire page, it didn’t apply to me. I re-queued yet again and explain that this was only in regards to ID scanners and didn’t state anything about secondary proof. He again told me to “call the police” if I have an issue. So I did. I asked if the local police station is red fern, he said “yes” as I asked that, the second security guard leaned over to him and said “don’t worry they won’t come anyway”
I called the local police station, the officer was super understanding, patient and asked to speak with the security. I did hand the phone after, after they spoke for a few minutes, I wanted to speak to the police officer again to understand what the outcome was. But the security guard hung up the phone before handing it over, when I asked if he could please recap that situation so I can get an understanding of the conclusion he just said “I’m not allowing you inside”.
The ‘owner’ which I suspect may have been a manager, supervisor or event planner entered into the conversation to tell us we were going to be banned from all the local clubs and bars now.
The entire situation was super confusing, I never raised my voice once, I even patiently waited for the male security guards to finish talking over me each time they interrupted. And if they just showed me something online that said the second form of ID request I would have absolutely just have gone home on first denial.
All of it felt petty, immature and I felt ignored and labeled as aggressive from the two male security guards for simply trying to problem solve and come to an understanding.
I would really reconsider security at this venue before you get tangled up in a...
Read moreWent for a techno event that was described on the website as "Sydney's hottest new all-night rave" and "Sydney's most anticipated underground event" (actual quotes from the website) and was rather disappointed at the end of it. I spent $40 for a ticket to come somewhere that was pretty much empty. There probably wasn't more than 30 people in the whole venue at one time. Bearing in mind it had two floors. Very mediocre sound systems that are not even close to being "rave" worthy. After one of the psytrance djs sets finished, I spoke with him briefly next to the mixing desk and asked him to turn the volume up which he did so that was nice although it still didn't compare to actual raves. The djs themselves were fine. Although there wasn't many people dancing, they still had good energy themselves. The music itself was I suppose as-advertised although personally I thought it was a bit slow and felt like I was listening to a simple techno loop for hours. The psytrance floor was definitely better. The beer wasn't too expensive compared to other places I've seen in Sydney although you can't pay cash and they force a surcharge on card. The weirdest thing is that I was cut-off from one of the bartenders to buy anymore beer after having a total of two "schooners" (I think that's what you call it over here). It's quite hard to explain this on a google review but I will say that I was not drunk, nor was I causing any issue in the slightest to have been cutoff from the bar. I've never had this happen to me. This is what is supposed to happen to people who very obviously have had far too much to drink. When I asked why I was being cut-off, the bartender said "just because". I left at around 2am. I've read the other reviews on this place and I've seen that people are also complaining about the opposite issue: That it's supposed to be a hostel and no one can sleep properly because of all the live music events. It seems to me that they should focus on one thing and not try to mix "hostel" with "rave" as you can't do both things well at the same time. Overall the night did not live up to how it was...
