Lorne Beach has two sections - the surf beach and the more sheltered areas. The main beach is a lot like Noosa Beach, in that the cove protects it, and the winds are not as severe as other beaches nearby such as Torquay Surf Beach. The way this area has been developed is perfect for families. If you like surfing, learners and more experienced surfers will enjoy the right end of the beach when the surf is up [not as rough as Bells Beach]. You can hire boards from the Hah Cafe, found on the edge of the beach, near the amenities. For those who prefer swimming pools, try the Lorne Sea Baths. In the evenings, it is popular with dog walkers and those wanting to take a stroll. I even witnessed a couple having a romantic dinner on the beach - table, candles etc. - thinking outside the box! For those who don't want to swim at the beach, you have other options nearby: skate ramps, playgrounds, cafes, ice creamery, ANZAC Memorial and take away shops. There is a mixture of on-street and set parking on the esplanade and beach. Lorne Beach is patrolled in certain areas and is a safe place to swim. Hats, insect repellant, water, sunscreen, correct foot attire and clothing are recommended. Perfect any time of year and if you enjoy a walk- left to the Lorne Swing Bridge and right all the way down to the Lorne Pier. [You can also get there by car!]

Been holidaying here since the 1970’s and despite its gradual development, Lorne has retained it’s charm and natural assets that make a trip here worthwhile. Meander down the Princes Hwy from Melbourne, take the turn through Torquay, slowly cruise through Anglesea (worth a stop and if you play golf, head the the Anglesea Golf Club). Wind your way through Airey’s Inlet, hit the Great Ocean Road and arrive at beautiful Lorne. The beach has beautiful soft sand, the fabulous Otway forest creating a natural amphitheatre around the Lorne main street. Well worth the trip, and make sure you stay for a day or two at least.

This was the first beach I visited in Australia when we moved to Australia 3 years ago. Now that I have visited it more than 5 times and in all seasons, I absolutely love it. Such a stunning beach that gets nice tides (not too torrid) and is easy to get into water. The strip itself is huge so can accommodate big crowds and it does gets crowded on weekends and public holidays. A must stop if you're visiting the Great Ocean Road or Twelve Apostles. There are plenty of eateries and restaurants across the street. Albeit expensive as it caters mostly to tourists but great variety nonetheless.

Superb surf beach. Long with a lovely expanse of sand. Great for swimmers, great for surfers, great for sunbaking, sitting or playing games. The beach goes off in summer. There’s a patrolled area for safety. Be prepared though. The water’s always bracing here. Clean, fresh but always on the cool side. The amenities are good here. Places to shower, places to change. If you tire of the beach the shops are right there for a drink, meal or whatever. Lorne beach is a great place.

One of my favorite places we stayed on our great ocean rd adventure, central to waterfalls & coastal tourist hotspots. These friendly locals aren't ment to be feed but we didn't realise until after we had already fed them some almonds & bird food treats, be careful as they aren't afraid to sit all over you & can get a little inpatient & bite. Pop in to sharkys surf shop for a really nice coffee & the salty dog fish & chippy best I've ever had

It’s 1.5 hours away from our place, the drive itself is amazing via great ocean roads. But its zigzag. So make sure who ever is driving is properly rested. The views at the beach are stunning. Ample of food options, but public bathrooms and toilets not so good. It was really crowded, as we went on 1st Jan , since the beach os huge, so social distance was easy to maintain. Over all good experience. You can do bbq there too.
