Brekky at walk-in order at Grandma Shields Bakery: ate the (just lukewarm & bakery should have left the mushroom stems out) chunky Steak Mushroom PIE; pie pastry is not flaky: had shrunk & gone hard; definitely there's no oomph flavour-wise (supposedly had won a silver medal in The Great Aussie Pie Competition); further, focaccia bread lacks crispiness on the top & bottom crusts & lacks the sponginess & airy within that squish the avocado etc in the best way possible; the lot was not overwhelming in all respects; the strong capucchino ordered tasted average ie could have a more intense coffee flavour; outside scene of the bakery shop has noisy cockatoos hovering the outdoor tables & chairs & large umbrellas ... could pose somewhat a health issue !!! Yet, across the road, a pleasing sea landscape with people enjoying the beautiful...

Regardless of the negative reviews, on a trip to Lorne today accompanied by my small dog & family. While they were checking out the beach, I saved a table hoping to grab a coffee & purchase half a dozen pies & coffees.

However being ignored for 30 mins, I decided I'd go in with my dog small dog in my arms, scanned, vaxed & masked to ask if I my family could order, eat & pay outside.

Upon entry, I was confronted with an enraged lady, I assume the owner, who yelled at me to get out & that I could not enter with a dog. When I asked if I could order outside, I was advised to leave immediately.

2 years with little to no Melbourne customers, and when we arrive to bring you money & business - you yell at us to leave.

Disgusting & I thought Lorne was...

We toured most of Australia and Tasmania this holiday, or vacation for us westerners. We'be been on the hunt for a truly excellent bakery. Well, we found it here. Tasty, flaky croissants, fresh coffee, and a myriad of other baked goods. They actually put real chocolate inside their chocolate croissants, rather than skimping like most places here. Plus, the chocolate croissant had real Apple inside--a nice touch.

My only downgrade is that their tea selection is limited, and they have no loose-leaf teas. But then again, you're here for the baked goods anyhow.

While we did not get a sandwich as we were here during breakfast, they did look fantastic sitting in the display case.

This us as close to a European bakery we've seen down...

I had been anticipating an award winning pie here since we arrived 5 days ago. A cooler day today, an ideal pie day and plenty of customers, but I was so disappointed. A chunky streak pie with “one chunk” that looked like it had been placed in the middle! Very, very average in my opinion. My partner, a vegetarian, was also unhappy with both the range and quality of her choice. At 1100 am on a cool Saturday morning the only vegetarian choice in (pies/pasties) was a vegetable and cheese pasty which in her opinion was also very ordinary. But wait, there’s more, to top it off my partner was short changed by $2.

I don’t know how they call it an award pie as I had over 20 different award pies everywhere I go and this is far away behind any award pie I ever had. That pie is just a good classic pie, nothing special even tho the price is good. This must be an old sign or they must’ve borrowed it. Now I did not appreciate at all being charged an extra $0.10 without being told. Pies are $5.90 not $6 as advertised so this illegal. You either have to advertise at the front and counter why you are overcharging or at least have the courtesy to tell it. This is very rude as this is my money not yours.
