Graukogelbahn — Attraction in Bad Gastein

That day 12th of July the Lift GraukogelbahnII was closed due to reparation / maintainance of a previous malfunction 2 days earlier but was ready later on a while before the thunderstorm came. But that anticipated closure was not communicated to us who hold seasonal tickets e.g. via info on website nor on spot by a sign - heads up would have been nice for those not needing to buy a ticket hence not talking to the vendor. Lack of communication. Therefore 3 out of 5 stars. Some people just walked up towards top station (1 & 1/2 hrs) assuming it's the only way to get up. It's normal that lifts are halted when there is lightening everyone understands it, though anticipated halt for maintainance is something you know about in advance. Please communicate when lifts are closed via a text on paper before bording or at least via info online so people know what to expect. Here's us hiding and riding out the thunderstorm. You just have to give up and turn around and find a shelter when hiking. Lifts are fast feet...

You can buy a single ticket for the descent online the day before for a whopping €23 (it couldn't be cheaper!). The elevator should be open according to operating hours. You hike up the mountain early in the morning and the chairlift just doesn't start. Nobody can be reached by phone, nobody answers, nobody is there in person. Even if you ask service later, they won't tell you why the elevator didn't move. On that day there was no information online or at the valley station or middle station. You can't rely on the rope lift! What a disappointment... Arrived in the valley after almost 7 hours with sore knees, 3 hours later than planned.

Alle zwei Jahre wieder mit der Graukogel Bahn auf den Graukogel, dem Hausberg von Bad Gastein. Pflicht ist eine Besuch in der Graukogelhütte die auf 1958 m Seehöhe gleich neben der Bergstation der Sesselbahn liegt und von Franz Weiss mit seiner Gattin und Kindern geführt wird. Franz ist ein exzellenter Koch und sein Team flink. Bei gutem Wetter wunderschöne Aussicht auf die umliegenden Berge. Gute frische Bergluft. Bekannt ist der Graukogel ob seines uralten Zirben Bestandes. Gleich von der Hütte weg führt der Zirbenrundwanderweg den man gemütlich in ca. 60 Minuten durchwandern kann. Zu sehen bekommt man viele schöne, idyllische Plätze, uralte Zirbenbestände deren Stämme je nachdem wie sie in Winden oder Stürmen gestanden entweder nach links oder rechts gedreht sind. Leider waren wir im September 2021 entsetzt wie der Baum.- und Zirben bestand durch den Klimawandel gelitten hat. Nicht mehr das saftige Grün sondern das Nadelkleid braun verfärbt. Schade! Hat man den Rundwanderweg absolviert geht's zurück zur Graukogelhütte, kehrt ein und läßt sich von Franz und seinem Team kulinarisch verwöhnen. Sein Kaiserschmarrn einfach köstlich und sehr empfehlenswert. Nicht zu verachten ist auch Franz's Zirbenlikör. Der Beste den ich je erstanden habe. Der genannte Zirbenlikör ist auch unter anderem jener Grund das wir, meine Gattin und ich, alle 2 Jahre Franz einen Besuch abstatten. Fazit: Fahrt auf den Graukogel und überzeugt euch selbst von den wunderbaren Dingen die euch...
