Kletterwald Ossiacher See — Attraction in Ossiach

Okay, if you've never been to a hochseil/Zipline park, then you'll probably have a good time here. It's large with plenty of variety and more under construction BUT that's where it ends for me. Here's why...

1. Street signage as to its location is poor. Use a car mapping system to find it.
2. Be prepared to climb hills! Right from the outset a steep road leads up to the registration hut. Then to reach any part of the park a steep hike albeit relatively short is required. You need to be fit or patient.
3. Now the deal breaker: the safety system they use is a locked double carabiner setup, it's heavy and cumbersome. I'm all for safety but the unwieldy equipment uses a harness but with shoulder straps. If you need to pee it'll take time to get it off, not to mention the walk down and then uphill climb back necessary to reach the toilet. If you have used any of the other safety systems anywhere else you'll know what I mean.
4. But what was unforgivable was the reefing system on most ladders where not only do you have to attach a carabiner to your harness, you also need to double carabiner your rig to a loop attached to the rope before you are permitted to ascend the ladder to the platform. Serious overkill... And worst of all, the no-fall rope system you are attached to requires brute strength to drag it up with you as you ascend. As a fit adult male I could only just muscle it up with me having to stop on the ladder to hoist it three or four times...it was tiring. My 11 year old could ascend only if I pulled the rope from below. No idea how kids or small women manage it alone. The day I was there a 'technician' happened to be doing work on the rigging and when I brought it to his attention he said that over time the ropes have shrunk causing excessive friction on the pullies. Well maybe so, but they need to be extended or replaced ASAP, not for safety reasons, but to make it possible for smaller people to ascend.
5. The Skyline ride from top to bottom is a slow motion zip line on a metal pipe...definitely underwhelming unless a scenic tour is what expect. And it closes at the first hint of rain due to speed issues. It's a 5 Euro extra. Save your money. Any of the new roller coasters (achterbahn) in amusement parks are far more exciting than this.

On the positive side the jumping/sliding net area on the top left is fun for kids that just want to walk and jump on a giant see-through net above the forest floor. Unfortunately for adults the knots in the netting as you walk through in your sock feet will hurt!.

The top three parks in Kaernten are: 3) Taborhöhe near Faakersee, 2) Katschberg, and 1) best of all Gerlitzen where you use a standard lightweight harness and two regular 'via ferrata' carabiners. So simple, quick and effective. Gerlitzen has all levels of difficulty and long zip lines. You should have a Kaernten card if you want to discount any of these parks and especially Gerlitzen where you'll need to take the gondola to the top and a further short chairlift...

Wir haben gestern zur Einstimmung nur den Familypark genutzt. Schöner Pfad (auch mit leichtem Schuhwerk begehbar). Ganz oben ist noch ein Spielplatz für Kinder. Und zum Abschluss noch die Flyline. War wirklich lustig. Flyline mussten wir ein zweites mal machen :-) Wichtig, wer die Kärnten Card hat, vorher aufladen, damit kommt man gratis in den Family-Park. Den Kletter-Park haben wir uns fürs nächste mal aufgehoben. Wir sicher spannend. Personal ist sehr freundlich.

Kletterpark (1 Woche später): nachdem uns der Familypark schon super gefallen hat sind wir jetzt auch noch in den Kletterpark. Man erhält 10% Ermässigung mit der Kärnten Card. Die Einschulung war super. Unser Junior hatte am Anfang etwas Angst. Aber letzten Endes war ich dann der Angsthase. Er ist 6 Jahre alt. Wir sind die blauen Parcours durchgeklettert. War echt lustig. Am Anfang muss man sich natürlich überwinden, vor allem wenn man so wie ich Höhenangst hat. Aber im Endeffekt ist es ja zu 100% sicher, da man immer mit einem Hacken gesichert ist. Einzige kleine Anmerkung: für echte Anfänger wie uns wäre ein etwas längerer blauer Parcour der vielleicht nur in 1-2 Meter angelegt ist cool. Da könnte man dann mal ihn Ruhe (ohne auf die Höhe zu achten - die ja eigentlich keine Gefahr ist, weil man gesichert ist, aber am Anfang dennoch Überwindung kostet) das Sicherungshandling mal durchspielen. Bis zum...

Ich weiß nicht, wo ich anfangen soll – der "Klettergarten" am Ossiachersee war eine komplette Enttäuschung. Schon bei der Ankunft war niemand wirklich zuständig oder freundlich. Das Personal wirkte genervt, unmotiviert und hat kaum erklärt, wie die Sicherheitssysteme funktionieren – was bei einem Hochseilgarten ehrlich gesagt absolut inakzeptabel ist.

Die Ausrüstung war teilweise abgenutzt, Gurte sahen aus, als wären sie seit Jahren nicht mehr richtig geprüft worden. Einige Karabiner hakten, was das Vertrauen in die Anlage sofort zerstört hat.

Die Parcours selbst waren entweder langweilig (für Anfänger kaum Herausforderung) oder plötzlich unnötig gefährlich – ohne klare Beschilderung oder Sicherheitsanweisung. Ein Mix aus schlechtem Design und schlechter Wartung.

Was ebenfalls richtig enttäuschend war: Die Anlage war überfüllt und chaotisch. Niemand achtete auf Abstand, Kinder kletterten unbeaufsichtigt, während das Personal lieber am Handy hing.

Dazu kommt: Keine ordentliche Toilette, keine Sitzmöglichkeiten, keine Schattenspots – nichts, was man in einer halbwegs professionellen Outdoor-Anlage erwarten würde. Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis? Eine absolute Frechheit.

Fazit: Schlechte Organisation, fragwürdige Sicherheit und null Service. Ich kann diesen Ort wirklich niemandem empfehlen – weder Familien mit Kindern noch erfahrenen Kletterfans. Spart...
