Türkenschanzpark is a beautiful hidden gem in Vienna’s 18th district. It might take a little while to get there, but it’s absolutely worth it. This is a park for locals — no crowds of tourists, just families enjoying their day: kids playing football, friends gathering around the ping-pong tables, people picnicking or relaxing under the trees with a book.

Even if at first glance the park looks a bit “wild,” you quickly realize everything is actually very carefully curated by the gardeners. There are beautiful fountains, elegant statues, and a huge variety of trees and plants to admire throughout the park.

The area is quite large, and the highlight is definitely the Paulinenwarte, a historic observation tower built in 1888. Originally created as a lookout point, today it still offers a wonderful view over the park and, on a clear day, even a glimpse toward the city (it’s open only in special occasions).

There’s also a lovely little restaurant and café if you want to grab a bite to eat while you’re there. Overall, Türkenschanzpark is a peaceful, charming escape from the busy city center — and it’s definitely...

A wonderful, old school park with varied landscapes and play areas. This park dates back to 1884 and sits among some of the most impressive villas of the Cottage neighborhood in the 19th district north of the center of Vienna. Easily reached via the 40A bus. Ponds, rows of wooden benches with wrought iron legs, playgrounds, dog parks, public restrooms and even a Diglas cafe/restaurant. A century old rail tunnel still Carrie’s a train beneath the park with a short exposed section in the center. I’ve been coming to this park since I attend the Vienna International School across the street back in...
