One thing that impressed me, that no one who has visited ever talks about, is that there are ruins of a neighborhood right next to the Colosseum. What a beautiful place! The group tour guide was very informative and filled us in on the history. He did tell us that in the summertime, it can get over 107° inside the Colosseum due to the content of the structure. We visited in the spring, the day after Easter Sunday, to be exact and it was comfortable until we were directly under the sun with no shade. There are bathrooms only on the main floor. I recall seeing a woman in a wheelchair, and there was a ramp for her; however, I did not pay attention to see if there were elevators (lift). There are many steps, and they are steep in some areas. We did stand in line. However, it was a line for the groups, and it moved quickly. Otherwise, the lines were long. One interesting thing that I noticed about the area and Rome is that this is the only area that we saw a person begging - an old woman sitting on the sidewalk begging for money. I saw her in two different places. In the whole area that is Rome, we did not see homeless people. I would bring water. You will need it. Our tour was over three hours long. Souvenirs: they have an incredibly small store. There are plenty of stores immediately outside to get souvenirs.

This is part of the wider site, but the mosaics are fantastic, and to be in such good condition after so many centuries is amazing. This is well worth a visit.
