During our short visit to Nesebar, we had the chance to explore the Archaeological Museum — and I’m so glad we did. I went with the kids, and even though our time was limited, the museum gave us a beautiful insight into the long, layered history of this ancient town. The exhibits are well-organized and easy to follow, even for children. From Greek pottery and Roman artifacts to early Christian relics, every room tells a story. It was amazing to see how many different civilizations passed through this small piece of land. We learned at the entrance that there’s an option to visit seven historical sites around the old town with a combined ticket. Due to time, we only chose the museum and St Stefan Church, which was also stunning — its frescoes left a real impression on all of us. Next time, I’d love to explore the rest of the sites and really dive deeper into Nesebar’s rich past. Even in a short visit, this museum made the history come alive. Highly recommend if you're visiting with children or have even just an hour or two to spare.

The museum itself is very small (only 3 rooms, one being quite small. The lady on the front desk was quite rude and blunt. When I presented the money for our tickets, she frowned and tutted despite only having to give me back €2 BGL in change. The artefacts are very well presented and the rooms are clean and well lit. Had the lady on front desk been more pleasant and perhaps there have been more to look at (for the price charged), or lower entry prices, my review would likely be higher.

Verdict : good exhibition items, inconsistent labeling and lackluster storytelling. Wasted potential in showcasing Nesebar's awesome history and legacy, but still interesting enough for archeology and history fans to spend an hour and see the city's past glories through glass cases.

Details: small exhibition area with one floor of archeology items and artifacts, plus a smaller room downstairs of medieval icons. Some items and artifacts have better labeling than others, none of which has a story or narrative about their origins or discovery or link to Nesebar's history, and information boards on different time periods in Nesebar are often too broad or vague to be useful context. Facility is also inconsistent in its upkeep, so one decent exhibition case could be next to a glass case that's literally falling apart. Some staff tries their best to help visitors, some staff acts as if your visit is an intrusion to their leisurely day sitting around. The artifacts themselves are cool, but if you don't already know a decent amount about Nesebar and archeology, you would not know or enjoy the exhibits nearly as much.

Protips: you can pay by card. the toilet is next to the ticket booth. the one-floor exhibition is divided by the entrance hall into two areas, you need to exit one area and across the hall to see...
