Before reading the content below, I would like to add that the owner has since reached out to me with a formal apology and I recognize the rarity of that quality of customer service. So I have changed my rating accordingly.
I’m a bit late in posting this, but I feel it’s important to share my experience with Valhalla Pure Outfitters in Abbotsford, especially when it comes to warranty claims.
Last year, I was told by an associate at this location that they could send my MSR tent in for a warranty claim due to a leak. I dropped it off right away, expecting the process to start. After several months without hearing anything, I called in to check on the status. I was put on hold for 15 minutes, and when I finally called back, the associate admitted to accidentally hanging up on me. She then confirmed that my tent had been sent off.
Fast forward another month and a half—I stop by the store to shop and casually ask about my tent. The associate checks with the warranty supervisor (who, oddly, didn’t want to speak with me directly). He returns with the news that MY TENT IS STILL IN THE STORE. Apparently, they hadn’t sent it off because it had a mildew smell. He even offered for me to smell it for myself. When I did, it just smelled like a regular tent. The associate seemed embarrassed, as it was clear the smell was nothing out of the ordinary.
Several months later, I finally received a call from the warranty supervisor, who asked for a detailed description of the issue—AFTER HAVING HAD MY TENT FOR FIVE MONTHS! I explained the problem, and then, a few weeks later, I received another call to say that my tent was ready for pick-up. It took almost five months for the tent to be sent out, and then it came back in a matter of weeks. There was no apology for the long delay.
Overall, this was a very frustrating experience. The lack of communication, the long delays, and the poor handling of my warranty claim make it difficult for me to recommend Valhalla for this...
Read moreI ordered a $250 brand-new backpack, but when it arrived, I discovered a lost U.S. passport and a pack of wet wipe inside—meaning the item had clearly been used or returned before being resold as “new.” The package was shipped directly from this Abbotsford location, and the store manage made this situation even more alarming.
When I reached out to this location, I believe I was dealing with the manager of the store, and unfortunately, she mishandled the situation in ways that put me at risk:
They asked me to email a photo of the first page of the passport, which contains highly sensitive personal information.
They asked me to return the passport with the bag to them which, when I consulted the police, they strongly advised against due to security risks.
Since last Friday, I’ve had to spend my own time dealing with this issue—time I should not have had to spend. They wanted me to mail the passport to the U.S. Embassy, and I had to keep sending emails and calls with them back and forth about this issue. And for all of this, they offered me only a 10% discount for my time. What if there were weapons instead of a lost passport?
This experience was not just about a quality of bag but about irresponsibility and safety risks. I ordered a $250 item and received a used one, along with a serious security concern—and their response to that was minimal at best.
I expected much better from a company I trusted. If you value professionalism, product integrity, and your safety, I strongly caution you against ordering from them, especially considering the poor handling of this matter directly from their location by someone who I believe is the...
Read moreEdit: Received a refund in exchange for the credits after phoning about this issue and they were able to do it over the phone. The owner I believe ended up emailing me later and gave me extra VPO credits. If you have any problems at this store, I suggest to just come back when a manager is around. They are reasonable and really value their customers.
Paid $111.95 for an item and only got back $81.56 when I returned it for a refund. Despite buying two items, they refunded all of the adventure bucks used on the purchase, making it so that zero adventure bucks had been used against the other item. Essentially making me pay full price for the other item and refunding me the least amount of my money possible during the return. Since I'm not planning on making any purchases in the near future, it's a temporary loss of $30.39.
I was upset with this (I expected $30.39 more in my bank account at the end of the day) but accepted it, and the woman at the counter was rude and dismissive with my concerns and questions throughout our interaction. Kept talking down to me and saying I was getting all my money back, unable to see the difference between VPO dollars and actual real Canadian dollars.
Only ever had amazing customer service here previously and was just really shocked at this...
