Dishwashing water miso ramen I don’t often write comments, but this is One of the most unpleasant dining experiences I’ve ever had at a Japanese-style restaurant in BC. • My first dish, the miso ramen, was completely inedible — it literally tasted like dish-washing water. The noodles are sadly tough and the beef in there is bland and a bit bitter-taste. All of my friends at the table tried it and agreed. I politely asked for a replacement. My friend recommended me this place, and now he is sorry. We asked the server and he explained they changed recipe of it. Very unfortunate for any old customer like my friend, and very reflective for a new customer like me. • The replacement was a California box (beef teriyaki, tempura, and salad). While technically edible, I’d rate the ramen –10/10 and the box maybe 4/10. The beef teriyaki was far too sweet (maybe personal preference) but also dry, almost like jerky. The California rolls, and the tempura were the only decent parts — the batter was crispy and well-fried. The salad, however, had the same off-taste (or just the ramen’s aftertaste was still lingering in my mouth). • Service was polite at first, but when paying, the server told me he was “shocked” that I had called their food garbage in his face— which I never said. That made the air awkward. What I did say was that the ramen tasted like dish-washing water. Harsh? Yes. Honest? Absolutely. Instead of reflecting, he got defensive. • For a place that looks decent from the outside, having only 2–3 tables filled at 6 PM on a Saturday now makes complete sense.
I’m the type of person who almost always finishes my plate (cultural habit — I don’t like wasting food). But this time I couldn’t even finish the replacement box. I cook a lot and had went many authentic restaurants of different cultures myself, I could be a bit more picky than most people but the ramen was beyond picky or not. Maybe they do have some better dishes, but certainly not the miso ramen. And after that defensive attitude from the server, I was left wondering whether the second dish was even safe.
I won’t come again, and I can’t recommend this place to anyone with a decent taste or knowledge of any authentic Japanese dish...

Well, as you can see yet again ownership lives up to expectations. Hurling insults and misinformation all aimed at maintaining their narrative - attack anyone who leaves an unfavorable review. This is suspiciously similar to the behaviors of Trump. In any event, thank you for proving my point Ra Sushi.
P.S. I would advise you read up on the Dunning - Kruger effect. It may provide useful in better understanding yourself and why you behave the way do.
Update since the owner responded.
The respondent to my initial review attempted to remedy our poor experience by hurling insults rather than trying to entice me to give their restaurant another chance. After viewing past reviews it appears the owner/respondent retaliates towards anyone who leaves an unsatisfactory review. I suspect they will not be in buisness for long with such a poor attitude. In other news, it was made clear to me that they would avoid serving me in the future. Well, I went there, they served me (still bad), I ate, I paid, and I left. Verdict, it appears their food is as good as their word. Try Sushi Box, it's better.
Orginal review
Avoid this place if possible! We visited this joint for the first time after walking past a dozen or so times. We walked in and were met with a cold reception. After waiting 15 min for our server to take our order, there were only 2 other tables at the time, we asked to make a small substitution for 2 individual pieces in a party tray and they told us it would cost more than 3 times the price of the items to switch them out. When we asked why we were told "no its policy!" We felt like they didn't want our business. So we left. Just so you can understand the party tray was $40 and the cost to switch was less than 50 cents. They wanted to charge us $3. I know the amount is inconsequential, but it was how we were recieved and spoken to that led to our departure. Good service can be the difference maker in many cases. We ended up at Sushi Box up the road, I suggest you go there for great...
Read moreWe placed an order for pick up and then asked if we could be seated quickly after ordering and rearranging our plans a bit to accommodate the extra time. The owner (I confirmed) refused, even though there were plenty of tables. I said sorry, we would be more than happy to eat out of the to go containers if they had already been prepared, as I assumed this may have been the reason —but that was not the issue. The owner very rudely said we were being refused table service as ‘we had already paid for our food and did not leave a tip’ so we were no longer welcome.
Had we have been given a chance for this establishment to SERVE us, a tip would have been extended accordingly at the end of our meal based on the quality of said service. We will definitely not be returning after being treated so poorly today.
Edit: Im sorry to hear you have had some bad experiences. That sounds like a you problem, not a problem to be projected onto me, a paying customer. To rudely assume these things and refuse service is not only unprofessional, but discriminatory. Perhaps you shouldn’t offer pick up or allow children in your restaurant —and maybe consider an automatic gratuity at checkout if that is something that is so important to you. I can see here that I’m not the only customer who has been ostracized for not providing what you feel is an appropriate ‘tip’.
May this be a lesson for us both. Best of luck to you sir.
*This man doesn’t stop. Only further exasperating the problem rather than trying to make things right. A pretty clear indication of the person he is —and a glimpse into how we were treated in person that day.
Stay clear!! There are MANY fabulous sushi joints in town that would appreciate your business, this isn’t...
