Hornby Island is a real gem amongst many other gems. It sits in the rain shadow of Vancouver Island and enjoys a much warmer and dryer climate year round. Tribune Bay provincial park really benefits from this warmer climate and features one of Canada's hottest beaches. It is incredible busy in the summer with visitors who tend to crowd the side closest to the entrance (walk to the far side for a bit of personal space). In the winter it is nearly deserted with the occasional local and thier dogs being the only ones in sight.    Read moreThis place is a secret national treasure. There are just not a lot of places like this in all of Canada. The beach, fantastic. The warm clean clear ocean water, fantastic. The accommodations....umm...what accommodation? After driving onto 2 ferries and crossing another island to get here....there is nearly nowhere to stay, and the ferries stop running early.    Read moreThis is a really choice spot as far as beaches go mid-vancouver-island. Takes 2 ferries to get there, but if you time it right it's not too bad. Good place to spend the day, lots of beach real-estate to spread out. Doesn't cost anything to enter. YMMV on parking availability, but we didn't have issues on a Wednesday in July. Great place to camp, if you can find a available sites. If you have a boat even better, you can just anchor off the beach and paddleboard in. No dogs, no liquor, and no smoking of any...
