It was my birthday during the weekend and I was looking for a korean - inspired minimalistic cutesy cake.
I noticed this place sold a wide selection of cakes with the exact style that I was looking for! It was also close to my area as well which is a plus!
I originally was going to get the jasmine tea green grape cake because I saw good reviews on it! But I saw that no one had made a review on their matcha cakes yet.
Since I'm a matcha lover and a cake lover, I decided to get this and give insight for anyone else who's looking for a matcha cake as well!
At first glance this cake is beautiful, it has the perfect minimalistic vibe that I was looking for!
The taste is very light! It has a light matcha flavour with a jasmine tea after taste. The bayberry cream on top and in the inside of the cake is slightly tart. Nothing too strong nor sweet. If you aren't a sweet lover this cake will good for you. I have different taste buds, I used to like very sweet things, but since I've gotten older, I prefer less sweet, but don't get me wrong I still like sweetness. The cake is very creamy and fluffy in texture!
However, the only critique I have on it, is that the tea flavours in this cake would've been more enhanced if it was a little sweeter. I can see other reviews saying how the cream is very "cream" tasting, its because the cream is not sweet enough. For me its fine, but I can see it being flavourless for an individual with a sweet tooth.
However, I'd still want to try the other cakes because I think the strong flavours and sweetness levels are dependant on what kind of cake...
Read moreNot really my cup of tea. The cakes are really pretty but not very flavorful. Mostly just taste like heavy cream. I was really disappointed by the mont blancs in particular because I've had Japanese mont blanc before and it's usually delicious and super chestnutty, but this chestnut cream didn't really taste like much and was mostly just heavy.
And then the matcha yuzu mont blanc we kind of thought just tasted like the matcha was cut with seaweed, it didn't really taste like it should. Or maybe the yuzu was off.
The espresso in the latte kind of just tasted like cheap french vanilla supermarket coffee, unfortunately.
We were hoping for a lot more given how pretty the cakes were and they're a little on the expensive side too. Not really getting the hype. I'll admit that we would have also liked things to be a little bit sweeter, but I understand that's kind of a matter of preference. We just didn't find anything particularly flavorful though, just heavy... even from the cream I'd expect a bit more of a milk taste, but it just kind of tasted like vegetable fat.
The service was good though and they were nice, the place smelled pretty good, so I'll give points for...
Read moreThis is a cute little café that's family run and can seat approximately 3 small groups of people.
I called the store after hours to see if it was possible to order a cake for next day pick-up. The owner didn't answer immediately but called me back within minutes and confirmed it was possible.
I ordered a Jasmine Tea + Green Grape chiffon cake. The cake was beautifully presented inside a clear box. The chiffon was very bouncy, moist, and light. The cake was coated in a perfect layer of unsweetened jasmine milk tea whipped cream. Each bite was complimented with sweet green grapes. The cake was perfect and I could keep eating it because it wasn't sweetened.
Although, one tiny optional suggestion would be to have an option to upgrade the green grapes to Korean grapes for the cake to be perfect.
Bottomline, I would buy another cake from them! If you need order a last minute cake,...
