Recently my friend had an extremely negative experience with the Summer camp that is held through them. The camp counsellors that were supposed to be supervising the children (ages 7-13) while at a visit at the Gravenhurst splash pad, but failed to do so when it came to the safety of those of the public also attending the public area. They sat and watched as one of their campers, bullied a three-year-old boy that also not to mention has autism, the actions of the camper went as far as threatening to push and jump on the three year old. A previous incident with a camper and a child that was there with their mother, the kids from the camp were throwing stones at the children that were there with their parents. They (all children from this camp) continued to leave the gate open and were constantly running in and out. Yes, Kids are kids, they will run around and make mistakes, BUT when they know the difference between right and wrong. Something needs to be done about this camp. Please fix this, I am EXTREMELY disappointed with the young women that are supposedly the camp counsellors. Very sad with Muskoka Steamships Summer Camp located in...
Read moreWe loved it! Highly recommend if you ever pass by and it's open!
We visited the Centre in 2019 during the Antique Boat Show. We were five, two adults and two children. At the entrance we found welcoming staff.
We love the interactivity of the Muskoka Discovery Centre and all the educational ways they used for all ages.
The children's playground is a wide an open space that I never knew one could have in a centre like that! It's different than the Ontario Science Centre we're used to and seemed both intimate though open and wide, very diverse, for all ages, and also inspiring.
All our children - then (less than) 1 year old, 7 years old and 11 years old - could find different ways to play and also be safe (the younger ones have an enclosed space with all sorts of stuff. It was such a relief to take rest as adults while children would play and have fun under shade (it was very hot outside).
We are grateful we had the opportunity to visit before everything changed in the world! Many thanks to all those who support it financially and...
Read moreMy father was a summer visitor to his aunt's cottage as a kid over a hundred years ago and was always massively interested in Muskoka all his life at that same cottage. I remember running to the rocks to see the SEGUIN and SAGAMO passing the cottage, belching smokestacks through the Indian River to and from Port Carling on the "Hundred Mile Cruise". This museum brought it all back. I only had a superficial knowledge of the Muskoka area but visiting the MDC over the years I have learned so much more. This should be a "must stop" for not only visitors but also residents as well. The new(er) "MISKO-AKI (Red Earth) Confluence of Cultures" is massively informative with so many beautiful exhibits and artifacts. It alone is worth a few hours. Needless to say the crowning jewels are the magnificent and historic Muskoka boats in the boathouse. Absolutely breathtaking in their majesty and astonishing refurbishments and...
