I visited this store to try their Latino foods. I had their mexican taco combos, mexican empanadas, and tamales. Everything tasted well. The service, however, was horrible! The guy at the counter was so unfriendly and unpleasant. It was like he didn't want to be at work today. He was on his cellphone, while I stood in front of him waiting to take my order. After he was done, he just left. When he came back, he was very dismissive towards me. No matter how good the food was, I definitely would not be going back. I'll spend my money where there's good customer service and good food.

One of my big #keto joys is chiccorines con carne (not that styrofoam-like snack you find in bags in the chips & pretzel aisle). When traveling, I'm always on the lookout for Latin American grocery stores for a flavor blast when snacking and cooking. Paraiso Tropical South delivers what I needed: an extensive hot foods menu, my beloved chiccorines, and aisle after aisle of everything from cane sugar to dulce de leche. It's near to Whyte Ave, for walking, and the ETS bus lines, for when I wee bit lazier. All in all, a good resource to have in your back pocket.

I very luckily won a contest on insta for a $100 gift card! I have been near the South side location since i went to the u of a but never made a point of visiting— i’m so glad we’re in the neighborhood for the north store! My partner and I stopped by to pick up my gift card and grab lunch from their kitchen and were blown away! For $13 a person we each got 3 tacos and a soda. The flavours and quality of food is outstanding. The selection in the grocery is vast and we will definitely be back for a more thorough peruse. Thank you Paraiso team!

Ill start this review with - I am spanish so I know a good pupusa when I see it. I ordered half a dozen mixed pupusas. Get the food. Go home to enjoy. The pupusas themselves were packed in tinfoil. Tinfoil that by the time we got home was oozing with grease. So much grease it had covered the bottom of the bag with grease. Pupusas were secured in car properly. Open the salsa Roja....its not salsa Roja. It's a watery fluid with an overwhelming smell of Oregano. Like someone had to gone to town on the oregano. Pat down pupusas with a paper towel because again the grease is oozing off of them. There falling apart as I'm trying to maneuver them onto plates. Lots of filling. HOWEVER the liquid salsa roja, and grease make it hard to enjoy. At this point they have all basically fallen apart so we're using spoons to try to eat them. I'm not sure if this was a one off but for $3.75/pupusa I would...

Amazing grocery store for latin food items. They might not have the biggest stock, but they nail down the basics well and do so at good prices. Their hours can be a bit difficult to make as they close somewhat early, but the fact that they're open until 7pm as an independent grocer should still be commendable. What really elevates them is the number of homemade food items available in their mini cafe at the back; tamales, pupusas, empanadas, etc. All are fantastic and have incredibly reasonable prices. In addition, the staff have never been anything other than wonderful and helpful. I love coming here and plan to do so for many more years. Keep up...
