My love and I stopped into Bonehead's BBQ for dinner today as it has been sitting, taunting me across the street from his apartment all week. Nice little place. Cute small-time family atmosphere. Max seating for the restaurant seems to be about 20. Prices are reasonable. I had the brisket, rib and sausage plate which came with a mountain of French fries (seem to be a staple here) and ordered Cole slaw and potatoe salad as a side. (Planning to take home for snacking later.) Cost was about $18CA/pp. The brisket was great, more moist than lean which is just the way I like it. Being from South Texas the sausage wasn't as hardy and spicy as I'm used to but still good and tasty in its own right. There were three sauces on the table; a hearty, a sweet and spicy and a mustard. I passed on the mustard but the other two were very tasty although I would consider neither to be spicy or hot. Again, that opinion is based on my South Texas taste buds. All in all a good little eatery that I won't hesitate to visit again when in Halifax.

I’m truly broken hearted to be writing this review. I’m not someone who ever writes reviews but I just had to with this one - boneheads has been my go to “treat yourself” meal since I moved to Halifax more than 10 years ago. Now I won’t be coming back. The food has completely taken a dive, while the prices have remained. I JUST had a baby so of course I wanted to treat myself and my husband to our favourite BBQ (and in our opinion what WAS the best BBQ in the city) what we received was just sad. All meat was dry and tasteless, the normally incredible cornbread was dry and overcooked and the Mac and cheese just isn’t what it used to be. This is a place I was considering as catering for my wedding, but sadly I wouldn’t even think of it now. They used to have the most amazing variety of BBQ sauce and even that tastes different. I’m so saddened and honestly wish I saved myself the $70 and got fast food instead! I’m someone who’s incredibly loyal to my local places and I feel betrayed by what was once my favourite spot.

I think the $30 platter with 3 meats and 3 sides is the deal of the century!!! Please don't change this. Having just come back from Tennessee (prominent BBQ state in the States), I couldn't wait to come back to Canada and eat great BBQ again as Nashville unimpressed me with their offerings. While it wasnt top tier, the BBQ sauces were delicious and the meat was decently juicy. I think they lacked a bit of that heavy smoke flavour I was looking for but everything was tender. The sides were fantastic - cornbread and honey butter was delicious, the baked beans were heaven, and the dirty rice was peppery and spicy. Overall good solid meal. The service was lovely as well - the decor could use some help if you are dining in, but overall, great.
