Its a nice provincial historic building to visit on a rainy day or in the winter. They have a very nice and cozy historic-feel cafeteria inside where you can also book a table for a special function or a date. The building itself features main room, girl and a boy old kids room, maid room and library / living room on the bottom floor. Its the home of the first Premier of Alberta so its nice to see how it was built, how people dressed and lived in the higher societies. There is a little gift shop in the basement area with cool old-style wooden toys that wont break your budget and your kids/toddlers will love. They offer special program throughout the year but have to visit their website to find out about them. This includes winter / christmas special events, Easter bunny, etc. They have very nice staff and of course keep the place clean and informative. If you park in front and enter your license plate number you do not have to pay for parking. There are only few spots so on busy days you gotta get lucky but its always better to try as there are very few free parking spots in the area as this is close to downtown and the university...

We went here for my wife's birthday for afternoon tea. It was one of her time wishes to come and check this place out, we were not disappointed. Excellent ambience, great staff and good experience over all. We were sat for our tea time and offered a menu of teas. She very much enjoyed the vintage house blend where I went for the more traditional Earl Grey. When I had set up the booking I had mentioned we had vegetarian restrictions and they full paid attention to it. We were blown away by the selection of pastries and savories that were brought out the table. The friendly staff explained all the various items. Each bite had us exclaiming how good each treat was. The tea was delicious as well. We never attended high tea before so we had a few reservations about attire and such but going business casual is perfectly fine.

Overall a great experience and we will definitely make this at least a monthly traditional...

Convenient location near an LRT station. Home of Alberta's first premiere and his family, and contains a lot of original belongings. The docents are passionate and knowledgeable, and offer a guided 45min tour - I opted to take a self-guided one, but would recommend doing the guided instead when timing permits. Admission is affordable and they accept credit. Only complaint is the front door is locked, and you need to knock to get in - I did that a few times and then called but I think they had left the front desk to check on tourists inside already. It didn't end up taking more than 10 minutes for them to come to the door but it did leave me contemplating if I should keep waiting or not.

I have to admit I have not been inside the Rutherford House as I have walked past it many times. I hope that I will go some time soon to experience the inside and the food but in the meantime I will talk about the outside. It’s a beautiful building in a beautiful setting. Tucked away on the University of Alberta grounds in a back corner this is a gem. The history of the building is pretty cool. You should check it out. In its day when this building was built it had all the modern amenities. The Rutherford family played an important part in the early history of Edmonton. Oh and I hear the restaurant in the house is excellent.
