When booking we were informed a lower room would be available. The lowest rooms available are on the 5th floor as the 1st to 4th floors are up for lease.
We were put on the 15th floor while we had requested the lowest floor available. The front desk scrambled to move us down to the 5th floor. Obviously this was not what was needed.
When we checked in, we discovered the room was adequate, although the bed is a 3/4 size, and did not even feel like a double, and the toilet was very low.
There were stains in the ceiling in the kitchenette.
There was no room service that I saw, so I ordered Door Dash. When I asked the evening front desk what the Door Dash protocol was (as nothing was posted) I was told to "sit right there". While the manager assured me the staff member was not meaning to be rude, it felt very brusque and like I was being admonished to sit like a dog. I was surprised that a hotel that has so many people there for the University Hospital does not have a policy like the Delta where they give Door Dash Delivers Key cards to get to the floor where the guest is staying to deliver to. I also found the blanket that was provided for the pull out couch to be itchy, and have been itchy this last week since using it (I have cleaned every piece of clothing I have as well as my bedding at home now.)
Our checkout was smooth as Delton was a shining Beacon of kindness. The parking was fine, except there were announcements everywhere that the area was being monitored for theft. Apparently this is an issue.
The hotel is very convenient to the University Hospital. If you are ok with cold staff, high rooms and water stains, it may be ok. We will not be returning. We checked out a day early and ended up staying in a hotel meeting our needs that cost a $100 less. We ended up driving a great deal more than anticipated and were given no recompense for the poor communication and inconvenience we experienced.
We thank them for making us guest of the day, but 5 chocolates and a bottle of water most definitely did not make us feel...
Read moreThey're quite good if you have a longer stay visiting University Hospital (it's a 3 minute walk) and need a kitchenette. Well appointed, friendly staff, and very quick replenishing of supplies you need like toiletries, sheets, towels and coffee.
Being able to cook your own meals, plus proximity to the hospital, make this choice a no brainer when you need a hotel nearby. During these trying times, you can't stay in outpatient residence connected to the hospital, and you wouldn't be able to make food there.
They're very Covid friendly, and you feel safe inside the building.
If you have pet allergies, be aware that they allow pets in the building. That's the only caveat you might consider.
Outside of Covid, you would also have a fitness centre in house, so that's a plus. I can't comment on this as it is currently closed.
Connected to the hotel are a wonderful coffee shop (Good Earth), a smoothie joint (Booster Juice), and a cannabis shop (Prairie Records). There is a grocery store (Safeway) within 900 metres and an H-Mart Asian grocery half that distance away, so your options are open for ingredients.
Of course there are fast food and convenience store options close by as well.
Overall, it's a great place to stay, with clean, well outfitted rooms in a...
Read moreThe person working the front desk should let go or written up. I booked a room for my 18-year-old daughter and when she tried to check in the front desk clerk told her she had to be 19 to check in. She told him legal age number is 18 in Alberta which he argued. After getting nowhere with him, she asked for his manager who came and confirmed 18 his legal age in Alberta. He did not believe his manager and phoned another manager who also confirmed the legal age as 18. She then gave her debit card for the deposit and he told her they cannot accept debit card. When I booked her the room I phoned and and they confirmed that the debit card could be used. The manager that was still there told him that they can use debit card for the deposit. Again he had to phone another manager not taking the word of the manager that was there who also confirmed they could use a debit card. After she finally checked in he failed to give her ID back which she questioned him on. He told her that he had given it to her and the manager that was still there told him he had not. He then gave it back with no apology. This was a 30-minute process to get checked in. It was her first time doing this and the front desk clerk made it a very terrible experience. Terrible...
