Kimberley Platzl — Attraction in Kimberley

We visited the Kimberley Platzl on an early weekday, and while most shops didn’t open until 11 or 12, the quiet morning gave way to a lovely, bustling atmosphere as things came to life. It’s a pedestrian-only area, which makes it feel extra safe and relaxing to explore—especially with kids or teens.

The Platzl is filled with charming little shops—ice cream, coffee, clothing, toys, art, and more. We grabbed some ice cream, picked up a souvenir toy for our teen, and even found some paint to do a little rock painting later. Everyone we encountered was friendly and welcoming.

One thing to know: the iconic cuckoo-style clock in the Platzl doesn’t chime on its own—it’s coin-operated! We didn’t realize until later when I looked back at a photo and saw the instructions. If you want to hear it sing, bring a coin. Either way, be sure to stop for a photo—there’s a bench perfectly placed in front of the clock tower for a great snapshot.

You can easily grab lunch here too, with a few nice cafés and eateries tucked along the walkway. Overall, it’s a lovely spot to stroll, shop, and soak in the charm...

The Platzl in Kimberly has always been the heart beat of the community. Mind you, there are many other great stores and facilities/amenities around the community that make this Cranbrook boy a bit envious. The Platzl is a wonderfully colorful pedestrian-traffic hub for the community and visitors to gather. It offers many great buys in both food, clothing, building supplies, quilting and a veritable cornucopia of stores. The Candy Shop and Snowdrift Cafe has always been some of my favorites. Once home to the gigantic The Back Door there is still lots of great gift things all about.
