Lifelong resident here, so I know this trail like I know the face in the mirror. It's always been a nice community space and is quite pretty in the fall and winter, with the idyllic creek and all the little nooks, wildlife, and side trails. You don't see them often, but there are deer around, though less so, recently. More on that later.
The city put the stairs in and paved a nice flat, wide clean path through the forest about 15-20 years ago. Though it really impacted the natural feeling, it made things a lot more accessible for older folks, those with mobility impairments, and young families. There are still offshoot trails that hug the water or trace the top of the ravine if you want a bit more adventure and, during the summer months, when the water is low, you might be able to edge out on the little lip at the bottom of the cliffs and find some cool fossils in the sedimentary rock there.
If there's one big negative, it's the coyotes that have moved in there in recent years. They're large, everywhere, often move in small packs, and have absolutely no fear of humans. You just don't feel safe walking alone there (or even in the surrounding neighbourhood) anymore once the sun starts to get low. Also, when you're on the trail and you come to the Eglinton bridge, there's a Tim Hortons up there. Check it out so you can enjoy a coffee while your hiking around.
