Have been visiting this establishment since it very first opened way back when. The djs are exceptional, the staff is friendly and the cocktails and snacks are quite cheap. You don't have to spend alot of money here to have a great time and see a fun show. Sometimes the wait for orders is a bit long and the seats are the bar are limited but it is well worth the wait. There used to be smoking permitted out back at the terrace, but now you must go out front to smoke. This watering hole is very queer friendly as most of the staff and clientele are queer or gay or lgbtq. I would say it is on the queer level of notre-dame-des-quilles. The bathrooms are totally non-binary and if you ever feel unsafe or threatened in any way shape or form you can signal the staff for help and they will come running. The nachos Grande are the all-time best nachos you've been dreaming of forever and they truly do come fully loaded. A selection of hot sauces is also available in case you need that extra kick. This is by far the best underground dive bar in the city hands down. The ATM is a little bit pricey but there is a bank close by and a debit machine system has recently been installed so you can use your cards. This bar is frequented mostly by local artists and has been a staple of the Montreal punk scene for years. Many great acts have played here over the years. Bring your friends and enjoy a tasty pint of beer if you are in the area. You won't regret visiting casa del popolo. You always run into old friends and familiar faces. Wonderful place if you are into kicking it into third gear on a Friday night or Saturday night. There are always fun and wild local singles...
Read moreIt’s a really good spot. The drinks are less expensive than most of the yuppie hangs on the Plateau. The music is usually decent. My only complaint is that sometimes certain servers make you feel kind of guilty for being there, like you’re putting them out and they would rather be dead than take your order. Most of the bartenders are really nice and professional, though, especially these days. There was a weird phase of angry bartenders pouting and ignoring customers, but that’s kind of over. Anyhow, drunk people are annoying, so I get it, but that’s life when you work in a bar, sometimes. Also, the food is mainly vegetarian-not vegan. They do have vegan and gluten free options, and the portions are really big. I think it’s like that because there are less strict rules for vegetarian commercial kitchens. It’s totally fine. I eat meat and I have never felt deprived because they don’t serve wings or ribs. The nachos are really good. It’s a mixed crowd of punks and students and older weirdos. I wouldn’t really call it a “hipster” place. It’s not a Crescent Street...
Read moreOne of the most important places that defines the spirit of Montreal, languages, politics, the search of beauty, the gestures of solidarity, the place to hold hands for the first time, the place to order a double of anything because you found the one you were looking for and you're nervous and happy and in disbelief. The place to be vegetarian, philosophical, to reconsider the lyrics of old songs, to see that your parents were also young once upon a time and they may have loved a place like this, the place where guitars become tomcats and the Devil comes tired from work and just wants to listen new bands that don't know that there were rock bands in Saigon or Buenos Aires. A place where you may be surprised to find new things, thoughts, feelings...
