I’ve been to VR Escapism Newmarket three times total now and before today I would’ve recommended this experience to anyone who enjoys a challenge, but today changed my opinion. Upon arrival we were told there was a 10 minute delay because the room prior to us arrived late (totally fine as me and my party were in no rush). We entered the establishment 10 minutes later and were told yet again there was another delay (not ideal but the staff working handled it super well, they provided us with tokens for the claw machine as compensation and apologized for the inconvenience). We were happy to wait and eager to begin our room. Beginning the room went smoothly, no issues. As the room progressed though we ran into many challenges. The calibration was quite off, puzzles that involved two people were quite hard because of this. The headset I had on kept flickering from the room to complete darkness. About half way through my headset began dying and every few minutes was reminding me of this or prompting me to plug it in. This was a large distraction and took away from the immersive experience. On top of this there were several kids coming in and out of the room running around, running into my party and I, etc. We had to remove our gear at one point to ask them to stop. There was no effort from the staff member to stop this behaviour. With all of these interruptions we were not able to complete the room and upon exiting the staff member we experienced was insensitive to these behaviours and we felt very rushed to leave. I want to add the staff that put us into the room were great (the young adults), the middle aged gentleman at the end has honestly discouraged me from coming again. Read moreI had an absolutely horrible time here. I had done 2 games at the Markham location about 3 years ago and it was AMAZING. I was so excited to experience this again with my 3 other friends who had never been before and it was an absolute waste of money. We showed up and there was no staff, there was a sign saying I had to call to get someone there within 10 minutes. The guy went for lunch 5 minutes before our booking. We then got set up with the equipment in the room with NO explanation of anything and no conversation. He didn’t tell us that specific people in teams had to be in their spots so we had to restart. Also failed to tell us that there was a secondary button on the hand devices which was VERY important in the game so we were trying to figure out how to complete a mission for 5 minutes. All of a sudden he’s TOUCHING my hand towards the button. Keep in mind we were in an absolutely different world so had no idea who was touching us and what was going on. We couldn’t even hear one of our teammates during the mission. There was a point in time when we were frozen yelling for help and he did not show at all. Read moreThe gentleman in charge was great. We had a few hiccups during our experience.
They had a massive birthday party before us, so the batteries had to no time to charge for our gameplay. Therefore our game was glitchy and our batteries had to be change multiple times. At one point we had to stop the game for 20mins to let the batteries charge.
But he brought us some waters while we waited. And he was very apologetic. He let us have unlimited time to solve the puzzle, and gave us a discount. One person with us got a bit sick when the game glitched and he didn’t charge him at all. Which was nice of him.
We knew he was trying his best.
The game was fun. However I do prefer the white Occulos headsets ( we used these at the Markham Location) over black headsets with the backpack that we were using that this Newmarket location. I found the backpacks got a bit hot.
Otherwise we enjoyed our experience and the customer service.
