BURNT SAMOSAS. Inedible. I purchased 25 chicken samosas, half of which were somehow badly burnt on the inside. I took the burnt ones (untouched) back to the store a week later, I showed them the receipt and date stamped pictures of the burnt ones that I had opened up. The store worker and owner refused to give me an exchange or credit, they said I should have called them right away when I got home. They said that had I bought them back earlier they might haven been able to sell them again. I don't see how because they're inedible. After this encounter I questions their food safety standards. They couldn't care less that they sold me an inedible item. This is a shame because I use to frequently shop there for grocery items, but I don't trust their food safety and hygiene after this very unpleasant situation. Please be wary, the owners are out to make a quick buck rather than a long term commitment to serving their customers.
Edited to address owner's response: I was calm and respectful to the staff in store and owner over the phone. The staff didn't even bother to look at the samosas I brought back, which were fully intact and untouched. The owner refused to listen and rudely shut me down immediately. I question their food safety/hygiene because the owner suggested the inedible samosas could have been a result of a problem with their oil. I admit I should have come in sooner but regardless whether I came in the same day or a week later, they sold me samosas that were strangely badly burnt on the inside (see photos) and did not care. Poor customer service, bad quality control, and questionable food safety/hygiene are the reasons for this 1-star review. I fully support local small businesses and have been a regular patron of theirs since they were operating out of their basement apartment on Facebook. As a small business owner myself, I know how important it is to provide good quality products and to take care of your customers. Unfortunately, The Samosa...
Read moreI recently visited The Samosa Master Inc in Newmarket and encountered a concerning billing issue. I purchased basic grocery items like khakhra and MTR Rice Idli, which, under the current tax exemption policy (effective December to February), should be exempt from tax as per Bill C-78. However, I was charged tax on these items despite them being clearly eligible for exemption.
To ensure this wasn’t a misunderstanding, I double-checked the government’s policy and even raised the issue in the WhatsApp group South Asians in Newmarket to seek community input and raise awareness. Unfortunately, instead of receiving support or clarification, I was removed from the group without any explanation. This was disappointing, as I was simply trying to highlight an issue that impacts all customers.
To further verify the exemption, I later purchased the same products from Walmart, where no tax was applied. This clearly shows that other retailers are adhering to the tax exemption policy, but The Samosa Master Inc is not.
This isn’t just about a small tax discrepancy—it’s about ensuring fairness and compliance with provincial regulations. Businesses must stay informed about policies to avoid overcharging customers due to negligence or oversight.
I strongly encourage the management at The Samosa Master Inc to review their billing practices, ensure staff are properly trained on tax exemption policies, and make the necessary corrections to prevent this from happening in the future. To fellow customers, I recommend checking your receipts during this exemption period and speaking up if you notice any discrepancies.

Read moreI wanted to buy holi colours so I called the store to check if the colours are organic, biodegradable and whether they stain or not. I was told the colours were completely clean. Once I arrived at the store I asked an employee again and they confirmed. I bought the colours and immediately realized some of the powder on the outside of the packaging had stained my fingers as well as my wallet. I ran to my car to use a wet wipe but it did not work.
I came back to return the colours but I was told “the system does not accept returns” and that the only way would be to pick up something else of the same value as the colours I purchased ie exchange only. There are no signs in the store saying anything of the sort. It’s not possible that any system exists which does not accept returns. Beyond that, they lied that the colours were clean. Samosa Master dealt with the situation in bad faith and I will not...
