The ice rinks get crazy busy in the evenings and weekends. The toilets are regularly perfumed, likely due to plymbing build-up over the years.
The vending machines work most of the time, although the one selling plastic junk is almost always near-empty. Who buys that stuff? The seats in the lobby are getting worn and they can numb your butt after an hour of sitting on them.
The gym looks a bit old and run down. Most of the gym machines look rusty in places, with grime and oil in the crevaces, generally they seem unhealthy to touch -- kinda the opposite of how gyms should look. The free weights look a bit newer. The parking lot is new, huge, tight and well enough lit. The field sports are excellent.
The further west you go, the better these Community Centre gyms seem to get. This one seems to have fallen out of the west category, as if its funding got sucked up elsewhere.
Everyone seems happy there, though, so don't let the below-average gym...
Read moreTo set the scene, I had spent the last 4 or so hours biking around the town and I found myself near River Oaks. I was feeling parched so I walking in to wet the whistle. To my dismay I found that the water fountain was absolutely filthy. Gum filled the fountain to the point where it was essentially unusable. This was the only water fountain that I could see in the immediate area so I reluctantly bought a drink from the vending machines. With a little bit of maintenance this issue could be fixed and I am not familiar with the other facilities...
Read moreGood community center. I went here for pickleball drop in. There are 2 courts that double up as badminton courts as well. Unfortunately the outer lines of both courts as too close to the walls and doesn’t allow for proper pickleball play. Wouldn’t revisit for pickleball. Also a very disappointing turnout probably coz of the good weather outside. Has capacity for 12, but only...
