The Caledonia fairgrounds. Owned and operated by the Caledonia horticulture society. The grounds are a large fenced in property, roughly 1k in diameter, loosely open to the local public; but the land and building are there to be rented for events. The property is very well maintained, always clean and the main arena is powered by a roof of solar panels. Known mostly for Caledonia fair, that happens every year, for a weekend in September. The grounds themselves are also host to several dog shows, car shows, rodeo, swap meets, large charity events, garden shows, as well as camp grounds for RV touring groups. There is a large, old arena that is also used for stag and doe's, parties, dances, weddings, local elections, and Roller Derby. The local lions club is on the property, small building, closest to the entrance. There are also a few small show barns, that are kept closed until the fair.
There are no garbage cans available while no events are happening, because the property is technically not open to the public. So please, take with you what you bring in. Pick up after your dog. Be an adult, and carry the poop bag all the way home.
PROTIP: Perfect area to spot heron. There are at least 2 that nest along the river here every year. The bald eagle has been seen here. I've seen it twice. Small ramp for launching a canoe. Popular fly...
Read moreWent to Caledonia fair for the first time yesterday. We missed the Ancaster fair so came here instead. Parking was very limited, even we got there at 12pm. There are some farm animals to see. The map provided was not very clear, and we needed to go back and forth to find the shows that we wanted to see.
Food vendors were over priced, so the amusement areas, so we didn’t bother to get on any of them. The little reptile show was fun. Super dog show was amazing but instead of doing it indoor (like shown in previous review), they moved it outdoor. It was hot and the visibility wasn’t good because it was too crowded, there wasn’t any shade provided whatsoever.
Another thing is that they charged $15 for entry and we can’t even find a water fountain to fill our bottles, the only one we found was out of service. Probably they want to sell a cheapest bottled water for a...
Read moreThe fair was ok this year. Every day they posted the midway rides and games were open at opening and they weren't. They were actually open about two hours after the gate opened. This resulted in wasted tickets for my family on the Sunday as we didn't have all day to spend there. They should consider $1 off admission if you buy online or something like that as lines quite long to get in. Give folks some incentive to buy online. I also wish the demo derby tickets were able to be reserved in advance so you didn't have to get there very early to get a spot. It was nice when they had tickets to the derby in 2021. Nonetheless the fair wouldn't be what it is without the volunteers. A lot of hardworking local folks do it for the love of community and very...
