Accessotronik (Gervais Electronics, Active Tech) — Attraction in Ottawa

CAVEAT: This review was from 12 years ago, when it was still Gervais. It's probably changed a lot since then. All the negative reviews seem to be since the takeover/name change as I doubt the original Gervais guys are involved at all anymore, so take my (and any other review more than a year old) with a grain of salt.

On your first visit, you may find it difficult to find what you're looking for but the staff are EXTREMELY knowledgeable and friendly. You can almost always find anything you're looking for -- they even have integrated circuits (ICs). Anything they don't have they can order for you -- usually at a reasonable price. However, if something seems out of your price range, check eBay, as you can usually order the parts directly from China, at a big discount. The downside is you have toy wait 3-5 weeks usually.

Worst experience at this place. They were very helpful until they sold me parts that don’t fit my PCB board. Then it all went downhill. I went back in asking for an exchange at which point the salesperson points me towards his sign which says no refunds or exchanges. I can see why with electronics but these are PCB board mounts that are completely useless to me as they do not fit my board for my project. As such I asked if I could exchange these mounts for banana plugs and pay the difference he would not allow this even though the board mounts are useless to me. I left the PCB mounts at the counter as it was not about the money just rather respecting your customers. Will never recommend this place. Would recommend ActiveTech electronics also...

Awesome long time vet. technician named Luc always a pleasure to get his assistance with projects. Been a fan of that place since childhood for various projects with an uncle of mine.. Although as of late and for quite a while now .. for an electronics store that location has abysmal store selection for over-the-air television signal parts , basically NO: rf boosters, preamps, antenna combiners, coax splitters, lightning arrestors, grounding connectors, inline ota LTE filters, etc .. no parts for making an antenna signal modulator either for ota nor cb uses. Same for can-tire, lowes, bestbuy, electronic liquidator, etc .. what is a guy to do when upgrading and fixing his ota tower...
