My husband and I visited the QB Museum 31 July after seeing an episode of Canada Over the Edge (Vancouver Island Eastern Coastline) that, to our delight, featured Qualicum Beach; with a discussion by Palaeontologist Graham Beard about all the fossils he found locally and brought to the museum.
The museum is well organized, with intersting artifacts, wonderful videos of how QB was founded - its first European settlers - and stories about the first luxury hotel that attracted Hollywood stars and Royal celebraties you just have to see for yourself. They had a garage exhibit of electronics as well as two floors at the museum, gift shop stocked with locally made crafts and a little theatre that played 2-3 minute movies about the area. There was a quaint garden and a locally made totem pole. Located at the top floor were artifacts from a heritage school, historic pictures of the area and artifacts from the area. A good little museum if you want to keep busy in the area. About a 10-15 minute walk...
Read moreWhy are all the fossils on the main floor and history such as it was upstairs? Very little about the real history. Didn't see anything about the airport and how it began. Also a model of Qualicum College was covering part of the history of schools. Also did not mention whom designed the school built in 1914 the person who Bennet Road was named after. I was raised in Qualicum and was very disappointed. Staff never even greeted us! I will never go back waste of an afternoon! One star...
