Little gem im qualicum beach!!! Me and the husband ended up here by casualty, we actually live in nanaimo, but a couple times a month we like to explore other towns on the island since we moved here recently. Anyway the place is very small and charming, with no fuss decorations, it has only 6 tables and the walls were covered in adorable drawings since they ate having a drawing contest for their little customers. The food was fantastic and so cheap, rolls are 4-7 dollars in average (some cheaper some more expensive),but they are big and generous. We ordered 5 or 6 rolls, a beef udon, gyoza and an octopus sunomono salad, and drank delicious tea we ended up stuffed and still had food to bring home. I usually inhale my sushi and I was surprised I left full and with extra food (we payed 54 dlls which I think its reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food specially comparing with other sushi places). I honestly thought we were gonna have to order more because some of the rolls were so cheap I thought they were gonna be tiny but no, they are pretty generous. The service can be a bit slow since they only have one server and they also have tons of take out orders and sit in customers, by the time we left there were some people waiting for tables. Even though it's far from home (45 min approx) we will be back for sure, maybe for a little hike in the zone and then some yummy sushi feast. Overall nice family owned and operated place, I can see these people love their place and do their job with...

I've been in here many times for lunch and dinner and am impressed with the staff and the food.

They go out of their way to make sure you are taken care of like bringing me tamari when I mentioned I couldn't eat breaded shrimp anymore because of the wheat. And the food quality is almost always on par.

Had lunch with my pops and my tuna sashimi and avocado cucumber veg roll were very good. I also ordered the California roll with real crab which was okay, but the texture of the crab was a little off and very dry. It's a limitation of real crab and I know that but would have been nice to have a little something to pull it all together.

Dad had the seafood Udon and was very happy with the flavor and portion size. Decent variety of seafood but a lot of pollock fish ball instead of natural, unprocessed seafood. Be mindful of watching your salt intake!

All in all a good place and I highly recommend it for eat in...

This was our first experience with this sushi restaurant. Based on so many excellent reviews I was very excited to order take out. I ordered a popcorn roll and when I opened the container it had a very distinct fishy odor. The agadashi tofu was undercooked and the batter was gummy underneath and it was not golden in color. The gomai was heavily sauced with a very salty tasting peanut sauce. The dynamite roll was was not enjoyed by my partner as he felt it was dry and possibly made ahead of time. I truly hope this was an off night for this restaurant as so many positive reviews attest to the great food. However they lost me with the fishy smell of my roll. Bottom line is we spent 40 dollars and much of it went to the compost. We would not try this...

I'm a huge fan of sushi so I was excited to try Sushi Hama. Before I grabbed my order I went to the liquor store and got a bottle of sake to go with my dinner. I stuck to nigiri and sashimi, with a miso soup to start things off. The fish was very fresh and delicious. Generous portions as well. My only thought would be, when the chef is making nigiri to put the wasabi on the inside. I also understand that's not something everyone enjoys. I'm very happy they had toro and a good selection of other fish to choose from. I would fully support uni, oysters, or anything else that's a bit more adventurous. I will definitely be going back and am thankful for a place like this in a small town. Kanpai!

The sushi here of many traditional varieties, some have sauce, some do not which is nice because not everyone likes sauce their sushi or sashimi. I personally do not like sauce but there were a few that I tried that were quite tastefully made. Food and Table service is fast even though it was busy when we were there, our dishes were served fresh and fast! Kind and Thoughtful service. The food presentation is beautiful and clean. The seating and tables could use some organisation, otherwise the ambience is quaint, warm, homey. A quiet place to enjoy dining out. We thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience.
